Meet Dawn Gallagher of New York City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Gallagher

Dawn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am thrilled to be interviewed by SDVoyager again! I was born in Buffalo, New York, and began my modeling career at the age of 17. I was discovered at a local Buffalo parade and immediately moved to New York City to begin modeling and acting. One year later I found myself gracing the covers of Italian Vogue, Italian Bazaar and Cosmopolitan. In total, I have appeared on over 300 International covers. I have been fortunate enough to be featured in campaigns for Clairol, L’Oreal, Coty, Clarins, Valentino and Ralph Lauren. I have worked with such prestigious photographers as Francesco Scavullo, Patrick DeMarchelier and Peter Beard. For 10 years I was an active on-air guest for the Shopping Networks and QVC. I currently reside in New York City with my 15 year old daughter Lucia.

My mission is empowering and inspiring women to look and feel their best at any age, we get better and gain more wisdom as we age. We are not milk cartons that expire! Divine feminine and divine wisdom is what I share in my books and social platforms.
I am now beauty VP and social media executive with Keranique haircare brand and I am also a best selling author, vlogger, beauty expert, television host and mother. As a former supermodel and veteran of the beauty business for over 25 years, I discovered years ago that taking care of oneself is not self-indulgent but self preservation. I am proud to have authored two New York Times best-selling books on natural beauty and health, called Naturally Beautiful and Nature’s Beauty Secrets.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road with many struggles on the way. As a model and actor, you unfortunately experience rejection on a daily basis. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I kept going no matter what. I wanted to experience as much as I could with the travel and the incredibly talented people I was meeting.

I was told at 25 years old that my career as a model was over and to look for new work. I decided to go to India and at the time (this was the 80’s) and I wanted to volunteer with Mother Theresa and the sisters of charity. I wanted to see and experience what real struggle was like.

It was an incredible experience and India was spiritually enlightening for me. It made me humble and also realize how fortunate I was to be living in America and all its conveniences. I felt truly blessed.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work for a beauty brand called Keranique and I am their VP of social media. As a creative and content creator I manage all their social media platforms and create all the social postings. All Keranique products specialize in women’s hair regrowth and their mission is to provide support and guidance on hair regrowth. I love creating content that gives women the confidence and tools to live their best lives no matter the circumstances. Keranique has helped over 2 million women on their journey to healthy hair growth.

I believe that a human’s inner light is meant to be their guide throughout their lifetime. It has always been my biggest passion to help individuals see their inner light glow and to help them seek their own truth by following their inner lighthouse. I was bullied as a child and learned early on that kindness and compassion are the keys to living a fulfilling and prosperous life. I believe it is in the transformative power of self love and love towards others that we change our lives and truly begin to see the flowers bloom. We should take brilliant pride in the way we evolve, the lessons we learn and the challenges we overcome in the dance of life. It is in fiercely dancing our dance, that we teach others to fearlessly dance their own. Be the candle that lights others.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Keep going and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle. Believe you can do it and you will find a way. Don’t give up your Day Dream!
