Dawson, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Funny story how the streetwear and lifestyle brand, Fate Clothing Co. came into existence. I, Dawson Richart, have always been a very outgoing, artsy, and creative-driven person ever since I was a little kid! I remember my first abstract painting I painted, my mom was extremely taken back that my wild little eight-year-old self was capable of calming down and creating such a unique piece of what I would call art. Entering into eighth grade after I moved from Redding, CA to the bay area (Castro Valley), I noticed I began to take a great interest in how I dressed going to school every day and would scoff at the outfits that my mom suggested that I wear.
Fast-forwarding to when I moved to El Dorado Hills, CA now and when I first began dating a very special person, Haley Vance. On a very random midweek day, we began going into deep conversations about what she wanted to do with her life. This led me to striking the question of what I wanted to do with my young starting out life as well as a freshly graduated eighteen-year-old high school student. This is the exact moment in my life where I figured I could either take the chance and see where my passion for clothing and creation could take me, or simply live a life of wonder and question.
Fate Clothing Co. almost immediately took on the ecstatic image of “living your life to the fullest” and promoted a positive, outgoing perspective and mindset for how all life should be lived. My personal opinion and life philosophy have always revolved around the resented fact that everything you experience in your everyday life, whether it be people, places or experiences, will soon one day pass and may never be the same as it once was. I try to remind myself of this and in some unique way, make every single day as memorable as possible!
Too many individuals in today’s world that I have personally come encounter with live day to day continuously waiting for the weekend to come just so they can yet again do next to nothing with it except relax because they’re too burnt out from their typical repetitive work weeks. The one and only vision behind Fate Clothing Co.’s existence is to spread the positive perspective and outlook that there is so much more to our ways of living than strictly money, work and going about a possible boring life routine that some may believe is the only way to be happy!
Do you ever look back and think, “Where did my livelihood go and when did it seemingly leave?” Well, the truth is that it never actually left. You still have it inside of you, you just need to find a way to pull it back out of you! Our straight forward motto, “Be the Unusual” and Fate Clothing Co.’s deep believes and values is what has given us our inspiration, and what has fueled our fire since day one. All it takes is a passion, vision and hope. With that, anything in this world can be accomplished.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth… now that’s a funny word. Yes. With the right perspective on how you perceive what others may call “problems” or an “issue,” you will come to find out that there is almost never a detrimental problem in the path to your goals. Yet I have most definitely had my fair share of complications and scenarios that I’ve had to improvise within order to continue moving forward in a positive matter. From not only the original creation date of this brand, but oddly enough my life as a whole, there’s only been one major struggle that stands out above all the others in which almost completely took the drive out of many important aspects of my life, especially Fate.

Through one of Fate’s largest growth periods for the brand as a whole, I was heavily involved with a girl that I made one of our select five California ambassadors to represent the lifestyle that we promote. She was a wonderful person with a personality that was spontaneous and unlike most others. She was a genuine inspiration for creativity and new ideas that I felt couldn’t fail because of the constant support I felt from her and my best friends of six years as roommates… Unfortunately, complications began to drastically arise between us and our unique friendship seemed to almost entirely crumble to what felt like nothing had even ever existed.
Too shortly after, I came to realize my lifelong best friend that I was confident I wanted as my best man, began to fall for her. I genuinely couldn’t believe it and I didn’t want to accept what was happening despite the countless times of being “reassured” from him that all was cool and there was nothing to worry about.
Being completely honest, I had never felt at such a low in my entire life. The following weeks I slipped into a very deep depression that I didn’t think was possible. It almost felt as if I simultaneously lost two of the most important people that gave me a great deal of my inspiration and structure. The flow of momentum for my life felt completely out of line. It wasn’t until recently I was reading an SD Voyager article regarding Chase Fisher’s personal story with Blenders eyewear. I came across the line when he said a man gave him some of his greatest life advice when he was closest to giving up on some of his biggest life goals. It went something along the lines of “No matter how many times you mess up, you only truly fail when you give up and stop for good.”
Similarly, that has been my mindset when it comes to almost everything in my life. In a nutshell, this is what I have always believed in and always will, “You might succeed, you might fail. But one thing is for sure that you will never know what could’ve been if you don’t at least try. No matter what happens, knowing the part “that could’ve been” is ultimately where you will find true contentment within yourself. Always make the jump. Always take the chance. Never give yourself the opportunity to regret and wonder what the future could’ve held for you.” That along with some great friends of mine is what helped pull me out of the very real depressive state in which I was in and gave me the second opportunity that I needed to once again realign who I truly was as an individual along with my dearest core beliefs.

Stated before, we are a streetwear/lifestyle clothing brand that represents living your life to the absolute fullest extent and not allowing a single day to go by that isn’t filled with the utmost joyful experiences possible!
We specialize in almost every clothing product that you could think of from head to toe except for footwear apparel! Fate Clothing Co. is best known for its slogan “Be the Unusual” which in blatant terms means “Don’t be the average everyday individual.” Typically we try to involve our slogan into various unique designs of our streetwear clothing in freshly different ways that you wouldn’t typically see in most generic brand designs in today’s fashion industry.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Coming in the very near future, we are planning on completely redesigning our website visuals along with the intensity of our coming content that of which will be exposed to the public for our future product releases in relation to our planned ss20 season drops!!! Additionally, we are counting on recruiting and adding a minimum of two more team members to our California ambassador lineup within the next couple of weeks to help represent/promote our message and lifestyle to the WORLD!!!
