Meet DeadRadio

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeadRadio.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Brandon Aragon and I (Daniel Fritts) decided to just start hanging out and playing music together after we played some songs for our friends at a party in Riverside back in 2015. Brandon is more of a technical/lead guitarist and I’m much more of a rhythm guitarist, so we compliment each other very well. After writing some original music, we began playing open mics in and around Riverside in early 2017 and continued to do so for most of the year. We found ourselves falling in love with the songs we were writing and began to feel limited by not having a drummer. We were being asked to play gigs and would struggle to find drummers to fill in. Although we were still a two-piece, in late 2017 we decided to record and release a five-song EP under the name DeadRadio. Not too long after the release of the EP Dennis Tran joined the band as our official drummer. We played as a three-piece for the first half of 2018 until Tyler Dewhirst joined DeadRadio, becoming our official bassist. Ever since we became a four-piece, this vision that Brandon and I shared years ago of playing in a Rock and Roll band really became a reality. Since Dennis and Tyler joined, we’ve been able to play amazing shows all over Southern-California and the surrounding area. We are still a young band, but we are determined to keep working hard and keep growing as much as we can.

Please tell us about your art.
DeadRadio mixes many different genres of music to create a fun and original sound. The foundation of our current music is alternative, however, we are all lovers of music and several different styles help make up our sounds such as pop, folk, classic rock, and doo-wop.

The main message of our band, and really what DeadRadio has always been about is having fun. We really work hard to make sure we’re having fun and everyone who comes out to a show is having fun. The world can be such a dark place and all of us fight our own personal battles in our day-to-day lives. Our shows are meant to be an escape, a place where you can forget about your worries for a few hours and just worry about having a good time.

A lot of our songs deal with problems or situations that many people can relate to. Even though we have a few songs that are very serious and are about serious problems, we don’t consider them sad songs. Many people go through the same motions and our songs are a reminder that they aren’t alone. That is the big thing we want people to take away from our music.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Being an artist is incredibly satisfying and rewarding. For anyone looking to connect with other artists, I would recommend looking up local events to attend that relate to the type of art you enjoy. Start going to local open mics if you are a musician, or local art shows and exhibits if you enjoy painting. It’s incredible and sometimes surprising the connections you can make just by attending these small events.
