Today we’d like to introduce you to Deandre Stratton.
Deandre, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Photography has always been an interest of mine. I’ve been very creative ever since I can remember. I used to draw and create things almost every second I could. I began getting into photography, but as a beginner, I gave myself the “easy” way out. I began taking pics with my phone lol. From there, it took almost 12 years before I purchased my first “official” mirrorless camera in 2016. Shortly after purchasing my camera, I began learning the ins and out of becoming a portrait photographer. Shortly after, in 2017, I officially created my business. I love watching the reactions and emotions during and after the photoshoots. It’s truly a blessing to help people achieve happiness or fill that insecurity of not feeling like a “model.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As an active duty service member, time is definitely not on my side half of the time. You have to do what needs to be done to make it in this lane, though. So from trips to LA and back in the middle of the week, multiple hours spent editing and the countless hours of sleep I missed, it has definitely been a journey. I would not have it any other way. It has made me realize I can adapt really well.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My portrait photography business focuses on making each client feel special. What makes me stand out from others is my ability to make my clients comfortable and create an amazing atmosphere. Listen, a lot of people can go grab a camera, but many can give you a great experience. The more open and comfortable they are, the more natural the pics come out. It’s really an all-around good time.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I plan on becoming a portrait photographer full time. In the next five years, I would like to take that next step. By building my connections and networking with other creatives, I will make that happen!
