Meet Delaney Bise of Conquer + Flourish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Bise.

Delaney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I went to San Diego State University and received a BS in Hospitality Tourism Management. While in college, I started working for a hospitality company running their social media. It was still very new for brands – businesses weren’t even using Facebook Pages yet, we used personal profiles! Instagram was just starting to be used.

I eventually became the Marketing Manager of the company marketing multiple brands. It felt like I was working at an agency, but I wanted to actually get agency experience. So I moved on and worked for an agency that had been in business for over 20 years.

From there, I worked for a couple of other agencies specializing in hospitality. I found myself in an unstable situation and realized that the best I could give to my clients would actually be if I created my own business instead of working for someone else. I quit and started Conquer + Flourish shortly after.

Has it been a smooth road?
I quit my job hard stop and had nothing lined up. I hadn’t formed my business yet. I didn’t have any clients or foreseeable income yet. It was a scary way to go about it, but I don’t think there is one ‘right’ way to go about starting your own business.

The path is just the path. Eventually, the clients and projects came. My clients, friends, and colleagues have been spreading the word of the work that I’m doing, and I’m very grateful for the support. A year later, I’m still here, and that’s a pretty big win!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Conquer + Flourish – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I offer marketing services and specialize in small businesses. My services include strategy, consultation, email marketing, website design, social media management, content creation, and reputation management. The list goes on!

My goal is to be able to take care of all of the small businesses marketing needs. If I don’t personally offer a service, I work with partners that do, or I connect my clients to those that can help. I believe that business operations play a huge part in marketing.

What I do is make sure I understand the operations side of a business so that both worlds are supporting each other. If a business is receiving a lot of bad reviews for a certain menu item, then we need to make sure that menu item is at its best before running a promo or advertising for it.

It’s a simple concept, but it’s not always easy for an agency or a business to understand this if their operations and reputation management and advertising are not in communication or working together.

I enjoy the client relationship and the education aspect. It always feels great to educate my clients on marketing and know they are understanding more because of our relationship.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
San Diego is full of small business owners and entrepreneurs. I think that creates such an interesting dynamic for a city. The community support for small businesses is huge, and it makes it possible for many of us to passionately work and live. There’s also a very laidback feel that truly makes this America’s Finest City!

The cost of living could be improved so we can continue to have a diverse community.
