Meet Dena Meeder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dena Meeder.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my journey in photography when I was 14 years old. I studied throughout high school and college. I found it a creative way to fulfill my creative passion as well as capture important moments and adventures.

Eventually my photography took a back seat to work and family. I mainly took photos of my children’s milestones, our family vacations and my boys’ performances. With my oldest son getting ready for college and my younger son getting his license, I found I had more free time. I decided to focus on my own passion, photography.

I started sharing more of my work on social media and began getting requests to do photoshoots for businesses and families that wanted creative portraits. I also started to collaborate with local models, designers, dancers and makeup artists to build up my portfolio. I decided to make my business official and launched a website, https://www.denameederphotography.com/. This provided me with a digital space to share my portfolio and sell my landscape work. I have done numerous shoots for a variety of businesses and influencers and I have been published in multiple international fashion, beauty and portrait magazines.

Has it been a smooth road?
In a world where everyone has a camera on them at all times, it can be a challenge to communicate the value that an experienced photographer and editor offers. I am very passionate about my work, so I find it difficult to limit what I offer clients, and hard to say no, but I am learning how to properly value my work. Most of my clients love the images I deliver, so this makes things easier and fills me with appreciation and confidence.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in creative portrait and lifestyle photography taking more of a storytelling and artistic approach. I work with companies that need images of their products and services to share both in print and on their digital platforms, such as websites and social media. I am able to provide them with a gallery of images to use for a variety of ongoing needs. Some of my clients include fashion designers, fashion and jewelry retailers and other product companies. I also work with personal service businesses, such as estheticians, makeup artists, stylists and personal chefs.

Family portraits, senior/graduation and portfolio photo shoots are just a some of the non-commercial sessions I offer. In all of these, I capture the connection between those I am photographing, as well as the feeling in that moment in time. Whether in the studio or on location, I specialize in creating a relaxing, fun and creative environment. I work with individuals, families and businesses, capturing the connection between those I am photographing, as well as the feeling in that moment in time. I have a fine art approach to photography making my sessions unique and personal.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think portrait photography will become more creative and be about capturing special moments and connections. I think the old-style family portraits that my family did long ago will be a thing of the past. With social media becoming a cornerstone for the marketing of most businesses, the need for unique, quality photos will grow.
