Meet Deserie Fisher of Dezie Dez Music Group in East County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deserie Fisher.

Deserie, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to San Diego from Orange County in the Summer of 2016. After going out to see a few bands here locally, I realized that I needed to build a team of my own to bring our style to San Diego. I worked on gathering the best musicians in San Diego to create my first band to manage The Dudes of San Diego. We teamed up with a friend, Claude Woods Jr. from Los Angeles to help bring the vocals that we needed.

Our team specializes in R&B, with influences of Funk, Motown and Rock. I then added a tribute to the 70’s era, Disco Queen – these guys come out in full costume, wigs platforms and bell bottoms and sing all your favorite Disco Hits. I then teamed up with three power ladies, which became The Jewel Tones – they are backed by The Dudes of San Diego. These girls sing all the songs no one else does, they do it because they can. All those songs that have falsettos people can’t reach, or harmonies that can’t be obtained, The Jewel Tones do all of that and more! My pride in managing these groups is that we have excellent talent, and we are raising the bar all around. I have gone back out to see bands, and I have seen a vast improvement in bands around town.

I began Dezie Dez Music Group in July 2019 to give my team a company that is behind them to book them, manage them and be their social media platform. I currently do all the bookings which currently include, Humphreys Backstage Live, Sycuan Casino, Jamul Casino, Pala Casino, San Manuel Casino, Coyote Bar & Grill and Goodies. The Dudes of San Diego also has been asked to perform at the Cruising Into Summer for Jamul Primary School.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I think what I’ve learned through this whole process is that circles are small, and the amount of people who want you to succeed is very few. The Music Industry is already a cut throat industry, but what makes it worse is that people fear to lose their gig because something better has come along. When in fact San Diego is big enough and there are enough venues out there for us all to play at.

I know that I have something good and something special. Some take that as conceit, however, my take on this all is confidence. I have confidence in my team, and what they do. Do I say we are the Best? Absolutely. I come from Los Angeles/Orange County area where the talent supersedes most Metro areas, I have been blessed to be able to find talent here in San Diego that matches up to the talent in LA.

I work hard to keep my team happy, booked and I always let them know how much I appreciate them. We don’t look at the haters, we just keep pushing on and pushing ahead as THE BEST TEAM IN SAN DIEGO!

Tell us more about your music.
I started DDMG (Dezie Dez Music Group) to simply create a platform for my group of musicians so that they don’t have to worry about booking, promoting or social media presence. I run all the Facebook pages, Our YouTube Channel, I edit all our videos, send out packages to book the band. When needed I run sound, setting up speakers, microphones running cables, etc. What they love is that I handle the business so they can just show up and play. What DDMG is best known for is building good strong relationships and giving back to our team. At DDMG, We help each other out. We have one another’s backs and we are family.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
This Music Industry has already changed a lot, My hope and prayer are that the full time musicians get the pay they deserve for the craft and field they are in. Its a lot of sacrifice and commitment for them. The sacrifice of being with their families so that people can enjoy music on the Holidays. The sacrifice on their bodies hauling around all the heavy equipment.

The industry has been known to pay $100.00 per musician for four hours of work. However, the rehearsal, the drive, getting there early to set up, staying late to tear down. The wear and tear on the vehicle. Sometimes some drunk people spilling a drink on their instruments or amps. The cost of the equipment to sound good on stage. $100.00 is cheap for all that. My goal and commitment are to keep our musicians paid well, for all their sacrifices they make to entertain the public.
