Today we’d like to introduce you to Desire & Josue Owo.
Desire & Josue, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We were tired of working a 9-5 paycheck by paycheck job or a late night hospitality job.
Our original business model wasn’t exactly Old World Outsiders. We discovered a deeper inner awakening on a trip to Iceland, where we witnessed the universe’s untouched entity. We followed our gut and started a fashion line inspired by the Victorian Era and Gothic touches our personal everyday fashion. Collaborations led us to vend at local pop-ups which in return gave us the opportunity to host our own events.
Survival of the 90s, combines the four pillars of hip hop to showcase, network and collaborate on mutual art projects. Wicked Universe mixes all alternative dark arts, where you can find acrobats, rope suspension, taxidermy, many more artists! Creating a space where like-minded individuals could interact, it opened up doors to monetize your art. We started as a recycled/thrifted fashion line, now we are event organizers, image consultants, photography/videography directors, and community advisors.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a steady path. However, as a starting business, things don’t always go your way. We still struggle when our 1974 VW doesn’t want to start. It’s in our driveway right now. You just have to roll with the punches, stay collective and keep pushing. People won’t always understand your magic, it’s ok, it’s yours for a reason. Not all people will believe in your vision, find someone else who can envision.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Old World Outsiders story. Tell us more about the business.
Old World Outsiders is a society of misfits promoting universal awareness and individuality through fashion and arts. By educating people about what’s vibrationally around them, and being in touch with themselves, they will be properly aligned with their higher selves. Be yourself in pure essence. The events help radiate the love of seekers looking for the universal truth and help the creation of arts.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck doesn’t exist. Be yourself, express yourself, believe in yourself. You only need THE right door, to cause a domino effect. Everything is part of the higher purpose, all you have to do is be aware. Stay focused.
