Today we’d like to introduce you to Desty Gonzalez.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always been into art, in high school I took art classes for all four years however I never really took photography into consideration. I always loved holding a pencil or paint brush in my hands and watching the art transform and become what it was meant to be on a piece of paper. In June of 2016 I became a mother and there I was again staring at a piece of art that I created. I decided to take one full year off and really embrace being a mother however a piece of me still yearned to create and it was then that I decided I was going to pursue photography. I never took any classes and I knew little to nothing about photography however what I did know was it would be a process and it wasn’t going to be easy.
So, my husband gifted me with my first DSLR Nikon camera and I began to read articles, you tubing videos and researching the basics of photography. Six months went by and I became discouraged not getting the images I wanted and it was then that I began to question my true abilities in pursuing this crafted skill. In 2017 I got hired and decided maybe photography just wasn’t my skill. I worked and became lost in my job however something managed to pull me back to photography a co-worker seen my work and asked for me to do a family session. It was then as I stood in front of this family seeing such joy in their eyes and just really losing myself behind the camera I realized I was meant to do this.
So, I decided I was going to give it a second try and really put myself out there because I loved feeling the joy I gave when shooting clients. Fast forward to roughly around three months ago I seen Cassidy Corot in Starbucks and I had been following her for a while. I reached and asked her about a photography group she had mentioned on her page. It was then after being added into the group were a spark was lit and confidence was beaming through me. It’s not easy to find other artist who are willing to give positive feedback along with tips and techniques to help push you become better and in that group, I found a huge welcoming community. As an artist it can become difficult to be confident in your work, everyone has a different perspective and what you may see as beautiful another may not. However, I’ve learned as an artist that is the beauty of art it’s not all the same in everyone’s eyes.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a Photographer located in Oceanside, I shoot all styles from family portraits to engagement portraits along with toddlers and maternity portraits. I love capturing moments that are held between my clients whether it’s a couple, a new glowing mother to be or a sweet toddler just giggling away. I always talk to my clients beforehand to really see what they are looking for in their session. My inspiration in my photography is capturing moments that will be timeless, moments that make you look back and remember the way your heart was beating when you gazed into your lovers’ eyes or the way one felt as their baby moved in their belly and I snapped a shot. I truly hope with every session my clients take away a feeling of comfort and confidence with my work.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice to other artists whether its photography, painting, pottery or whatever skill your pursing is never give up. One lesson I wish I learned earlier is being ok with failing however not letting the failure dictate your path.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I display most of my work on my Facebook page facebook.com/TimelessphotographyO along with my Instagram account Instagram.com/timeless_photographyo.
