Today we’d like to introduce you to Deven Schneider.
Hi Deven , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Always had a passion for shaping dirt . Started building the course for the San Diego Mudrun . I would make crazy shapes and we became known as the muddiest Mudrun with over 100 mudpits . This taught me the art of shaping . I then joined local 12 operating engineers which taught me proper dirt fundamentals . I then got my first Pumptrack in 2014 , the Pumptrack orchard which had 19 fruit trees intermingled thru the track . I was featured on mtbr.com with it and said In an interview , my dream is to one day build these bike parks for the people . I then maintained factory supercross tracks for Dreamtraxx , prepping the tracks for factory KTM, husquvarna and Honda for the best riders in the world . Fast forward and many private tracks more to 2019 when we were blessed to be able to realize my earlier statement and win the first ever public bike park contract , Sweetwater bike park in Bonita in which we won project of the year for . From that park . The city of San Marcos reached out and we were contracted to build the Bradley Bike park and given total free rein to create a world class bike park . We did and won plan design of the year for that park , a park that is a master piece work of art that has raised the bar for how public bike parks should be built . We are now one of five approved bike park contractors to bid on the new veterans memorial bike park in Carlsbad and the only San Diego native bike park builders to be able to bid on it . It would be an incredible honor and blessing to be able to build this park for our hometown
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With God . All things are possible . I told Him on a mountain top before all this started “if your real , show me . Here’s my life , I will trust you “
The road has been so divinely laid out . It’s hard to fathom it’s reality . It has been an easy ride , and one that I did not force or make happen . Doors opened and I walked thru them in faith . Proverbs 3:5 has been my anchor in this journey of dirt art “trust in the Lord with all your heart , do not depend on your own understanding, seek His will in all you do , and He will direct your paths .”
I lived this verse , my work is its result
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known as a dirt artist . I use tractors as my paint brush and the earth is my canvas . I build bike parks , Surron tracks , motocross tracks as well as house pads and artistic contour grading making land useable and beautiful.
I am most proud of the bike parks
What sets me apart is my passion and creative mindset . Client after client , when I’m done , will always say “man , you’re an artist . I never knew dirt could look this good”
One called me the Michelangelo of dirt . It’s funny , because they have never met each other , but they always say the same theme .
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
It’s the best geographical place on the world . We have such unique dirt, rocks, hills and mountains , coupled with the best weather . It truly is the best city in the country .
