Meet Diana Mendiolea and Thania Quiroz of TipTop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Mendiolea and Thania Quiroz

Hi Diana and Thania, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
While we didn’t know it at the time, the essential building block for what is now TipTop evolved back in Junior High–when we met and became friends. However, it wasn’t until after University, when we both had already been working for some time, each in our own specific areas, that we became reacquainted. [Diana] I had begun helping friends with the design of their resumés on my spare time and I saw a real need for guidance when it came to how to make a good first impression on paper. My background in communications gave me the confidence to know I had the design part down but I still needed an objective eye, someone who had the expertise from the inside on what companies are looking for in a candidate–and then came Thania. Everywhere I asked for recommendations on an organizational psychologist she appeared. And so, I contacted a long lost friend; she saw potential, outlined a method, and TipTop was officially born in 2017.

At the time we both had formal jobs, but as we saw our service become increasingly popular, we decided to go all in and dedicate ourselves full-time to TipTop. We each made it a point to further prepare and educate ourselves in our areas of expertise, having completed various certifications in topics ranging from body language, personal branding, image consulting, among others. Today we have evolved and expanded from just resumés to an all-encompassing Image Consulting Agency specializing in all seven areas of public image, proud of consisting of a team of six young women who all share the same passion for creativity, autonomy and vision.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest challenge was educating the public on what image consulting was. At the time we began to formally offer services as an image-focused agency this was an industry that was unknown and unfamiliar in our region. We had to first explain what public image is, and how it having the word public in its name does not mean it is only for influencers or those in the public eye. Our first job was to communicate why caring about our image matters, how it influences all aspects of our lives, and how knowing how to work with it consciously can be an integral part of our success. We hoped to overcome this challenge through changing the view many have of a curated image, helping them see that if done right and with help from experts it can actually be beneficial and strategic.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about TipTop?
In TipTop we specialize in seven areas of strategic image: styling, personal, professional, public, digital, environmental and corporate. We are proud to have grown in such a way that led us to now be serving a new audience that is very well-known in our border area–students who are looking to continue or begin their studies in the U.S. We are known for our individualized programs in each of these areas. We work one-on-one with our clients and our consultations are customized to their needs, purpose and goals. We believe that our methodology is a key component in what sets us apart. We make it a point to begin all of our programs with a thorough conversation with our clients, almost an interview, where we let them speak and share who they are, from professional goals to how they like to drink their coffee. Our golden rule is to listen first and focus on doing work that is centered on the essence of the person, respecting who they are intrinsically. Never changing who someone is, but simply guiding them on how to reach the potential they are already capable of, but might not know of yet. We are most proud of the fact that we have been able to continually create a brand that is innovative and modern, but also empathetic and flexible, a brand that adapts 100% to the needs of our clients. We see this through our clients, because their success is our best reference for ours.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Diana: I was fortunate enough to be surrounded and raised by wise men and strong women. They helped me grow up in a way that allowed for me to have a sense of certainty when it came to believing that I could accomplish anything I set myself up to do. I grew up going to work meetings, boardrooms, conferences, all thanks to my mom. By the age of seven I was her sidekick, going to important meetings and negotiations, sitting in a corner listening and taking it all in, unconsciously learning about the business world in the process. Thinking about it now, it might be memories like this one that led me to always be trying new activities and disciplines, ultimately leading to me discovering my passions. Thania: From a very young age I’ve always loved dance, going to my dance classes was my favorite time of the day. I remember even my parents using this to ground me. It was never the TV or allowing me to do or not do something. It was always as simple as telling me I would not be going to my dance classes. I always thought this was going to be something completely separate from what I was going to do later in life, that it was just a hobby, but it turned out it gave me some of my biggest lessons for life. It taught me about discipline, tenacity and teamwork. It helped me develop my creative side and it most definitely helped me to believe in myself. It was without a doubt one of the key elements that led me to where I am today.
