Today we’d like to introduce you to Diandra Quirós.
Hi Diandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I graduated from high school, I didn’t know what I was going to study. Everybody else knew what they wanted but I was blocked. I have always liked fashion and as a typical designer, I made clothes for my barbies. I decided to take a course in dressmaking and when I completed it, I decided to go into a fashion design school in Tijuana called Modiart. Then, for some reason, I was unmotivated, and I lost interest in sewing.
In 2015, I frequently visited a shop located downtown Tijuana which sold several pieces from local designers. I then decided to take up sewing again and create clothes which I could sell at this shop.
Dee Dee was the name I chose for my brand, as it is my childhood nickname. I was very excited when I would take my finished products to the shop and find out that people really bought them. I participated in events, but I struggled a lot and did not sell as I wanted to. On many occasions, I was discouraged and thought that maybe it wasn’t for me.
I couldn’t dedicate myself 100% to the brand as I was working and going to school at the same time, so my brand did not advance as it should have. In 2020, I decided to quit my job to dedicate myself to my brand and then the pandemic began. I was becoming frustrated because I thought for sure I was not going to earn and generate income. But, oh surprise, in the first month of the pandemic, I published hair scarves on Instagram and they were gone in a few days. I couldn’t believe it because I generally struggled to sell online.
With the pandemic and the whole time in the world, I began to create new garments and new sets, and people continued ordering and buying. I can surely say my brand flourished because of the pandemic. I now have my own customers, and it makes me very happy to realize a lot of people already know my brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many obstacles. It has definitely not been easy to get here. I was struggling to sell and was very discouraged, besides from the fact that I could not dedicate the necessary time to the brand since I worked and was in school at the same time. When I made the decision to quit my job and dedicate myself 100% to my brand, I had to sacrifice many things since I was going to have a limited income. Thanks to the universe, people began to know my brand, and it has been a success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My brand consists of simple garments, basic clothing. People love the sweat pants sets, besides offering them just in time when the pandemic began because everyone was working in the home office and classes were online. I wanted to offer clothing which is comfortable and pretty and which could be worn in these rare times. Something that also characterizes my brand are the panties. Very cute and comfortable panties that have been a great success.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
At the moment, I am singlehandedly developing my brand. It is a process, acquiring material, creating patterns, cutting fabric and sewing, labeling, packaging, taking pictures for media and the webpage, marketing, etc. I am grateful to my customers for supporting this small business, and if you do not yet know my brand, I invite you to visit my webpage deedeemx.com and get to know the products.
