Meet Diane Forster of Diane Forster – I HAVE TODAY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Forster.

Diane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in New York and grew up on Long Island. My family moved out to Los Angeles the summer before my Senior Year of High School because my dad had a business opportunity out there. I attended San Diego State University, which is when I fell in love with San Diego!

My career background is I spent 32 years working in advertising and television sales, with 8 years in advertising in Los Angeles, before I moved to Chicago and worked for 24 years. I spent the last 20 of those years as an Executive for ABC. While I was living in Chicago, I came up with an idea for a kitchen product on Easter Sunday back in 2009. I was making deviled eggs to take with me to a family party, and as I went to put paprika on as a finishing garnish, the spice poured out of the container too quickly and spilled all over my beautiful eggs!

At that moment, I thought, “If only there was a small sifting spoon, with a long handle and tapping edge, then I could do this in a much more efficient way!” That idea in the kitchen that day set me out on a quest to find something like the image I saw in my mind. The problem was I couldn’t find it. It didn’t exist. A voice in my head said to me, “Diane, you need to create this.” So, I did. It was not an easy undertaking and I got a lot of pushback from others, but my mantra was, “I just want to see where this goes.” Well, it led me to winning an Innovation Award at the International Housewares Show in Chicago in 2013 and to an appearance on QVC!

My product is called, “The SPIFTER” and it is such a fun kitchen gadget! It’s a sifting spoon that comes with three interchangeable sifting bowls, and you use it to decorate foods and drinks with your sugars and spices. It has many other uses, too. One of the things people love most about it is its versatility. The journey with The SPIFTER opened my mind to entrepreneurship, which I had never even considered. Since I’ve created The SPIFTER, I have designed several other products in the kitchenware space, including a full line of SPIFTER products, as well as five other product lines, that we plan to launch over the next few years. I just hired a team to help us get to the next level.

We are looking for investors and experts in this industry to help us. This company is called, “Diane Forster Innovation” (DFI) and our products have four main criteria that they must meet: Brilliant Design, High Quality, Multi-Functionality, Last for Generations. The ideas I have for our cookware line and cooking utensil line are so unique and different, and consumers are going to love them! I love to cook and bake, and I have a knack for seeing the gaps, solutions, and opportunities. My mind is always thinking, “how could this be better?” The beautiful thing about innovation is it has no limits… there is always room for improvement and change, and I love that piece of the creative process.

I also run another company called, “I HAVE TODAY” (IHT). The creation of IHT came from my personal journey. When I moved to Chicago, I moved to be with a man, and we got married. We were married for 20 years, and honestly, the marriage was never good. There were good moments over the years, but it was a very unhappy, unfulfilling relationship. Yet, I stayed in that relationship for over two decades, struggling to try and make it work, all the while keeping it hidden to the outside world. To everyone looking in, it looked like I had a perfect life, yet deep inside, I was miserable, unhappy, and lonely. One night, in June 2011, I attempted to take my life.

The story is written out in my book, “I HAVE TODAY: Find Your Passion, Purpose and Smile, … Finally!” That night in the bathroom was a pivotal, life-changing moment for me. I reached out for help the next day, and after several other things occurred in that relationship, I got out of it by January 2012. After a brief “pity party” for myself, I turned inward and pointed the finger right at me!

I took ownership of my part for the condition of my life and made a declaration that I wanted an Extraordinary Life and I was going to do everything possible to have it! My meditation practice, journaling practice, and new immersion into personal development, self-help and spiritual awakening healed me in a rapid, profound way. I started to deeply love myself and accept myself. During this time, I had opened up my ability to receive my intuitive gifts, and I began writing and creating like crazy! I would write in the middle of the night a lot, being awakened by bursts of inspiration.

One morning in August of 2013, I woke up with a poem in my head called, “I Have Today.” Once I wrote it all down, I looked at it and I realized, “This is WAY more than a poem. This is a MOVEMENT. This is a platform for me to help other women who don’t know their self-worth for them to discover their true divinity, power and purpose!” I realized that if I was living in that quiet hell for so long, how many other millions of women were too? That was the day the idea for the company “I HAVE TODAY” was born.

Fast forward, two years later… my beautiful twins graduated high school, and I made a bold decision. I quit my job at ABC, I got my kids off to college, I sold my house and all my belongings, and I moved from Chicago to San Diego with nothing but my clothes, my SPIFTERS, my vision for I HAVE TODAY, and a dream. Like with The SPIFTER, I said, “I just want to see where this goes.”

Since my move to San Diego, I have done so much!!! I became a certified coach and practitioner, the best selling author, a keynote speaker, a TV Show Host, I’ve created so many online products and services to help others, and I continue to coach clients privately to help them reinvent their lives through their transitions, just like I did. My work focuses on MINDSET first, since that’s where all the limiting beliefs live, and my processes are fast and very effective. Once we do that, I help them to build their businesses and the rest of their lives so that they are living each day to the fullest, with passion, purpose and intentionally!

I HAVE TODAY says it all! It’s all we have, and we all need to be living in the present moment, living full out, and focused on what makes us truly happy. I’m so passionate about this work. My mission statement is, “I am committed to seeing that 1 BILLION women who don’t know their self-worth discover their true divinity, power and purpose.”

I believe that every woman should love herself unconditionally, express herself with true authenticity, and move fearlessly through her life… creating and sharing all of her gifts with the world!

The SPIFTER changed my life. It may only be a spoon to most, but to me, it’s so much more. It opened my eyes to what’s possible. I HAVE TODAY is my legacy. It is the name I want to be associated with… even long after I’m gone. We will always think of Louise Hay when we hear “HayHouse.” Those three words are so powerful… I HAVE today. People ask me, “why two companies, Diane?” My answer is always, “I’m the mother of twins… I’m used to looking in two directions at once!”

Seriously, the real answer is… there’s more coming. Once you invent, you cannot shut it off. For me, the biggest challenge is getting the finances and team around me fast enough to keep up with my ideas! There’s so much more I’m planning to create. I believe in the Law of Attraction, and I believe that the right partners and investors will feel the passion I have, be able to see the vision I’ve created, and want to be a part of the joyous journey with both DFI and IHT.

San Diego, to me, is the most beautiful place in the world. This is the perfect place to build these companies, with the massive pool of talent and resources here, there’s nowhere else in the world I’d rather be living and working.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road through life and in business is filled with bumps and hurdles along the way.

Some of the struggles I’ve experienced have been partnering with untrustworthy people, manufacturing too much quantity ahead of sales, never having run a business before and not knowing what I didn’t know.

What sets my company apart is the level of experience and diverse experience I have.

Having advertising, marketing, branding, sales, invention, speaking, author, coaching, and also being intuitive gives me a very unique perspective on things. Like I said earlier, I have a knack for seeing the gaps, solutions, and opportunities… not just with my business, but for my clients as well! I see them in their health, love life, relationships, businesses, everywhere.

If you’re not creating a life around ALL the things that make you happy, then you’re missing out!  When I’m working with clients, we get right into the mental blocks, mindset challenges, and limiting beliefs they have FIRST. We must do that before we can start to build on something. I have a proprietary process I do with all of them that I developed from a consistent pattern I saw with all of them. Once they do this process with me, they are transformed from the first time! They feel a shift immediately! It’s so powerful!

Then, once they’re feeling an elevated level of confidence, focus, and have better decision-making skills, we start getting them focused on the areas of their business where there is the most growth potential. I love getting their texts all the time with progress reports! They are so excited about each new day! They are truly living the “I HAVE TODAY” Way, and it’s wonderful to see! I also work with other inventors and coach them as well.

I have one inventor whose product we will be manufacturing under our brand and another one that we are partnered with that we are helping move forward with as well.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
There are so many favorite memories of childhood, but one of my favorite things to do was to write poems and stories and do scrapbooking. I was also a whiz on a pogo stick!
