Today we’d like to introduce you to Dmitri Diakov.
Dmitri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started back in 1980 in the capital of the former USSR, Moscow. I moved from Russia to America in 1991. I don’t remember much of those days but one thing is seared, the images of tanks on the city roads, going in opposite direction of us.
Anyway, long story short, I joined the USMC out of Arizona, that’s how I found San Diego, boot camp, soi, etc. In 2012, I ordered my first drone UAV quadcopter etc. Shortly after getting my commercial license part 107 I registered as an LLC and have been providing superior quality aerial footage services in North County at a competitive price (one-man show for now).
I’m also part-time adjunct faculty at SDSU, Social Media Director for the nonprofit San Diego Actors Theatre and I got a couple of marketing gigs online.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. The FAA is a slow-moving bureaucracy. City ordinance is also not very new business friendly, particularly to disruptive technologies like drones and rollerblades.
Sparrow Drones LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sparrow Drones LLC is a premiere aerial imaging services provider in North County. I specialize in marketing material but my gigs tend to be inspection oriented. I am most proud to be part of the group of small business owners, its a challenge unlike any other. Jack of all trades master of some and I speak Mandarin.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting my first pay gig.
