Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Sockolov.
Dana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had the mind of an addict for as long as I can remember. Although I was a good student and captain of my sports teams growing up, I did anything I could to escape reality. I struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and bulimia. After graduating college at Cal Poly, I fell even deeper into my addiction and eventually found myself living back at my parent’s home in Northern California.
In June 2013, at age 24, I made the decision to pack up my car and move to San Diego, not knowing a single person. Two weeks later, I hit rock bottom, but I also experienced a miracle at the same time. On July 11th, 2019, I celebrated six years clean and sober off drugs and alcohol. I found a 12-step program that saved my life.
Newly sober, I had a strong desire to help others so I went back to school to become a Substance Abuse Counselor. I worked in a women’s outpatient recovery center and loved the feeling of making an impact in someone’s life. After a year and half working 8-5, my entrepreneurial spirit kicked in full force. I knew there had to be something different out there for me. I loved working with women in recovery, but I wanted the time and financial freedom entrepreneurs created for themselves.
doTERRA found me at the perfect time in my life. I was already in love with their oils, courtesy of my dad who suggested years back I try the oils for the discomfort I was feeling in my jaw, neck and shoulders. When a new friend asked me to do business with her, I hit the ground running. I found a business I could continue empowering women in recovery, but on a whole new level. I’ve been making an impact in people’s lives with doTERRA for three years now and my work has only begun!
Has it been a smooth road?
I learned quickly that personal development is the name of the game. Belief, faith and quieting my inner critic are the three biggest challenges I’ve experienced along the way. I find a great deal of personal development through podcasts and books. My favorite books right now that I read over and over are The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson, Essentialism by Greg Mckeown and 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with doTERRA – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I chose to partner with doTERRA because I fell in love with their business model and the impact they are making around the world. They provide the purest most potent essential oils and an incredible holistic line of supplements and everyday household products, all geared towards improving our health with a natural approach.
I am known for my healthy lifestyle and my community of powerful women in recovery. I specialize in working with the mind/gut connection. My customers come to me for issues like lack of energy, stress and anxious feelings and problems with digestion and sleep. I focus on the gut first, because we know that over 95% of our serotonin is produced in the gut, not the brain. This is our happy neurochemical in the brain, which helps maintain calmness and a happy mood. We also know that about 40% of what we eat gets used for the brain. When our gut is heavy with inflammation and mucous, we’re usually having issues throughout the body.
On a daily basis, I educate others by teaching classes and doing individual consults, offer suggestions and guidance, and support my customers with their health goals. I also train and lead an amazing group of women entrepreneurs. I truly live this health and wellness lifestyle in all matters of my life. I practice what I preach.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m a California girl at heart. I grew up in Northern California, went to college in Central California and plan on residing in San Diego for the rest of my life. Hands down, my favorite thing about San Diego are the people. I’ve made the most incredible friendships and met the man of my dreams!
There’s not much I don’t love about San Diego, other than traffic! But, I’m used to it living in the Bay Area.

Dana is the real deal. She walks the talk. I’ve been inspired by this last year and if you’re lucky enough to meet her, you’ll be left a better person for doing so.
