Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Constantiner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Societe with Travis Smith, who I met while we were brewing together at The Bruery (Placentia, CA). He had previously brewed at Russian River Brewing Company (Santa Rosa, CA) and I previously had gigs at some San Diego breweries (Green Flash Brewing, Oggi’s). Travis left The Bruery for a San Diego brewing job and shortly after his departure we decided we should start something together. We opened Societe in May 2012 and heavily base on our company’s philosophy on brewery first, business second. We’re known for IPAs but have also won numerous awards and medals for our Belgian-style ales, lagers, and stouts. We’re very proud to be a San Diego brewery and sell 99% of our beer only in San Diego.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, for us, we opened at a historically great time for craft beer and we’ve had a great run so far.
Please tell us about Societe Brewing Company.
We’re known for making world-class beer and keeping it local. We are draft-only (no bottles or cans) and self-distribute our kegs to around 350 bars and restaurants across San Diego County. We take pride in the fact that 99% of all our beer is consumed in San Diego. On the beer side, we’re known for a wide selection of IPAs as well as Belgian-style ales, lagers, and stouts.
Pricing:
- Beer on site is $4-$6 per full our.
- Growlers (beer to go) ranges from $8-$18.
