Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Lauren Vreeland.
Dr. Vreeland, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story starts with the universal childhood question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Well, at age 17, I was graduating high school and was asked to answer this very question on a questionnaire. I balked at the prospect of really knowing what I wanted to do with the rest of my life when I was still just a teenager heading into UC San Diego with an undeclared major. In jest, I brainstormed with my mom to come up with a career no one had ever heard of to list as my answer – we landed on “naturopathic practitioner.” At the time, I had no plan to make that my future career. Spoiler alert: I became a naturopathic doctor.
The word, naturopathy, was unfamiliar to me but curious sounding enough that it sparked my interest and exploration. While a student at UC San Diego, I began researching naturopathic medicine and quickly had a light bulb moment. The idea of treating the whole person, looking for the underlying cause and using natural treatments to promote healing made so much sense to me despite growing up popping antibiotics and ibuprofen for any ailment. I soon declared my major as Biochemistry & Cell Biology and began preparing to apply to naturopathic medical school.
I completed naturopathic medical school at Bastyr University in 2011 and set up my practice in Orange County at Newport Integrative Health. Working with patients is my passion and privilege.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? No! But, aren’t all the best success stories riddled with challenges and tenacious perseverance? Struggles? Yes! Learning to be an entrepreneur after spending 8 years studying to be a doctor, financial struggles, and student loan debt, starting in a field that was unfamiliar to the general population, major personal development and growth early on, becoming a mom while growing a practice…
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dr. Lauren Vreeland – what should we know?
I am a California licensed naturopathic doctor and see patients of all ages. I specialize in treating allergies, autoimmune disease, and dermatologic conditions. I am fascinated by the immune system and concerned by the increasing prevalence of severe allergies, multiple food sensitivities and autoimmune disease in the population, and especially in children. I care about getting to the root cause for individuals, but also as a community, and on a global scale. We need a better understanding and research of what is going on in our environment, with our food and in our digestive/immune systems that are leading to the volume and severity of allergic disease.
Skin is my other passion. It is so visible and a reflection of our internal health. I want to help people glow from the inside out.
I also provide IV nutrient therapy and have seen the profound effects of IV nutrients on the skin as well as autoimmune disease, to list a few.
My mission is for people to experience freedom in their health again.
