Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michael Ackerman.
Dr. Ackerman is a medical intuitive, distance healer, and chiropractic physician in San Diego, California. In addition to a meditation practice since his early teens, and over 27 years of training under a world-renowned spiritual teacher, he spent three years in India studying and performing volunteer medical work, culminating in an inner transformation that radically changed his approach to life and healing. Now in addition to practicing as a chiropractic physician, he offers healing work which goes beyond the boundaries of most other mainstream and alternative therapies, wedding Eastern and Western medicine –along with his spiritual insight — into a powerful synthesis to offer new hope in healing the physical and emotional pain of others. “As a result of the years with my teacher in India, deeper intuitive abilities were opened within me, enabling me to see the internal wounds of others, to understand where they came from in the past, and to know how to rapidly release and heal these wounds. I actually learned how to take on pain from people’s bodies, allowing it to pass through my own body, as I progressively grew in spiritual awareness and non-attachment. After three years of continuously living and traveling with my teacher in India and throughout the world, she suggested not to continue Reiki, but gave me her blessings to return to the U.S. to practice a new healing methodology. For the lack of encountering any similar technique resembling it, I’ve decided to simply name this unique work, “Depth Healing” Dr. Michael Ackerman has been in private practice for over 31 years. His background includes a bachelor’s degree from Whitman College in the field of psychology. His professional education was completed at the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago, where he graduated with honors as class valedictorian, receiving two degrees: Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. Healing sessions are offered in-office, via Skype video call, or phone, serving clients living in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Australia. Professional biography… Dr. Michael B. Ackerman pursued his undergraduate studies in pre-medicine and psychology at Whitman College in Washington State. During these years in college, he developed an early interest in exercise physiology and physical education in order to enhance his knowledge and his teaching abilities as a second degree black-belt instructor for the campus karate school. Following graduation from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Dr. Ackerman’s interests in a more wholistic and preventative approach to medicine led to a decision to enter graduate school at the National University of Health Sciences, Chicago, Illinois. In addition to a very demanding course load over the next five years of schooling, he worked as a teaching assistant for more than a dozen different courses, instructing in laboratories for the departments of Anatomy, Radiology, Biomechanics, and Orthopedics. As a result of this teaching involvement, Dr. Ackerman received the honor of being published in a nationally recognized textbook of chiropractic clinical technique, and was selected as the recipient of the Anatomy Achievement Award. Following a one-year internship at Chicago General Health Services, Dr. Ackerman graduated as class valedictorian in 1986, receiving two degrees: Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. Upon graduation, the college faculty asked Dr. Ackerman to accept a full-time teaching position in the Department of Pathology, but he respectfully declined their offer.
In the succeeding two years, Dr. Ackerman entered an associateship in a sports medicine practice in New Orleans, Louisiana. During this time, he treated amateur, collegiate, and professional athletes from most sports backgrounds, including the New Orleans Saints football team, the Delta Festival Ballet Company, national body building title holders, international martial arts champions, tri-athletes, gymnasts, pro-golfers, pro-bowlers, etc. Dr. Ackerman grew to become known as a lecturer on sports medicine, nutrition, and injury prevention at such places as the University of New Orleans, The National Physique Conference (NPC) Southern Regional Symposium, numerous martial arts schools, industries, and athletic clubs. In 1988, Dr. Ackerman moved to Monterey, California, where he practiced as director of the Sports and Family Chiropractic Center, a clinic which operated with an average of eight employees, including associate doctors, massage therapists/physiotherapy aids, an exercise physiologist athletic-trainer, and front office support personnel. This clinic was well-known and successful, offering state-of-the-art care in sports medicine, nutrition, and wholistic family practice. However, Dr. Ackerman also had a strong need to achieve a sense of a deep spiritual success in life, which up to this point he did not feel he had satisfied. Thus, in 1994 he decided to fulfill a long-awaited dream and chose a radical new path in his career: Dr. Ackerman sold his home and practice, and moved to India. There he had the great privilege of studying under a world-renowned spiritual teacher by the name of “Ammachi” (The Holy Mother), in addition to having the opportunity to perform volunteer medical work in Her charitable institution. Over a period of three years, Dr. Ackerman experienced a deep inner transformation and a remarkable opening of intuitive abilities, which fundamentally changed his approach to life — as well as his approach to healing. With the wealth of knowledge and experience acquired in India, and with Ammachi’s blessings, Dr. Ackerman returned to the West and established his clinic in March of 1997, in La Jolla, California, The Center for Chiropractic and Depth Healing. After 16 years in La Jolla, he moved in August of 2013 to his present location near Sea World Drive. Dr. Ackerman now sees patients personally, and also works by phone and Skype with people throughout the United States and around the world. In addition to treating his patients’ physical and nutritional health needs, Dr. Ackerman also offers people a rare opportunity to understand and remove the inner psychological stress and emotional root causes of their pain. This approach brings about a lasting and more profound healing of the whole person, addressing the deeper underlying emotional wounds which relate to their outward physical symptoms. Dr. Ackerman now achieves more rapid results with a wider scope of his patients’ health problems through wedding Eastern and Western medicine into a unique and powerful synthesis for holistic healing — going beyond the boundaries of most of the mainstream and alternative healing therapies available today. I hope this will give you the information you need…
Has it been a smooth road?
Like myself, most people enter onto the spiritual path looking for greater peace, light, joy, happiness. We try meditation, devotional singing, prayer, reading spiritual books, attending seminars, etc. and do eventually have more and more moments of success in attaining experiences of inner light, joy, and peace or stillness of mind. I have to say that I wasn’t prepared, during my initial 15 years of spiritual practice, for the difficulty I would encounter in actually “holding” on to the inner peace, light, and joy which I found in my spiritual practices. I felt my progress was slow in that regard, and although I could reach great spiritual “highs”, they would almost always be followed by spiritual “lows”, as the pendulum was bound to swing the other way. When we embark on a path of “transcendence”, trying to get above our problems using various spiritual practices, this is the inevitable consequence — you are only afforded peace of mind for short periods of time. It wasn’t until I met Ammachi, my spiritual Teacher, that I started began to be guided additionally on a path of inner purification. This meant that instead of trying to “transcend” my problems, always seeking the “light”, I learned how to face the “shadow”, which is the part of me which holds the pain and wounds of the past. This opened me up to a new path of “transformation” … where the actual cause of my inner darkness began to be alleviated. As one spiritual teacher said so aptly, few people nowadays are interested in the deeper aspects of the spiritual path, they want the “New Age” teachings and practices, but they are bliss bunnies, not interested in facing the shadow.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Center For Depth Healing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I invite people to take advantage of my insights and methods for healing the underlying origins of … Relationship Issues — Individual or Couples Healing Stress, Fear, Anxiety, Grief, & Depression Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Difficult to Diagnose Pain & Medical Conditions Spiritual Imbalances & Blocks Challenges You Feel in Reaching Your Personal Life, Health, and Business Goals Many of us have been engaged in various forms of healing and transformational work over the years, seeking some form of growth or positive change in certain areas of our lives. We’ve read numerous books, tried different forms of meditation and spiritual practices, used many affirmations, gone to seminars and counseling, etc., seeking to become more peaceful, loving, and successful human beings. But those of us who have truly made a sincere effort to rid ourselves of undesirable personality traits or self-defeating behavior patterns have probably discovered how exceedingly difficult this process is.
Oftentimes, just when we believe we have changed and achieved some success, life sends us some kind of test or challenge –perhaps in the form of a difficult person, a trying relationship, or some stressful situation — in the face of which our unwanted personality traits, which we had hoped were long since conquered, re-emerge and rear their ugly heads. We get discouraged with apparently how little progress we have made, and wonder if perhaps our past efforts have been all for naught. This was my repeated experience throughout 35 years of spiritual practice, trying to meet the challenge of bringing the light and peace that I obtained in states of meditation consistently into my daily life. Since 1990, however, under the powerful guidance and grace of an East Indian spiritual teacher by the name of “Ammachi,” an intensive period of training, trials, and efforts, resulted in the great fortune of my being able to learn techniques to remove the deeper roots of our negative tendencies. These roots are not readily apparent. They are hidden within the so-called “shadow” of the human personality, and they are maintained in unconsciousness due to the fear and pain we have of confronting the parts of ourselves which we judge most harshly. By avoiding our fear and pain, instead of allowing such feelings to pass through us, we form various psychic and bodily holding patterns (actual wounds) which are sensitive to the pressures of any new experiences which remind us of our painful past. Over a period of time, these wounds may cause tissue changes manifesting as tension and pain patterns in the body’s muscles, i.e., headaches, backaches, nerve conditions; they may affect internal organ physiology causing disease conditions, e.g., asthma, ulcers, arthritis; and at times long standing emotional wounds may aggregate into entire multi-system syndromes, e.g., chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic anxiety or depression. The more we continue to avoid facing the dark-side of our nature, the more we accumulate pain in many sensitive trigger-areas within us, and the more likely in life that situations or people will come along and “push” one of these sore and reactive “buttons.” We thus become easily robbed of our peace, health, and vitality–we feel victimized, wrongfully pointing our fingers in blame at people or outside circumstances for our upsets, instead of looking within and realizing that these external factors merely trigger hidden areas of pain already stored within us. As a result of my years with my teacher, deeper intuitive abilities were opened within me, enabling me to help others to see their internal wounds, to understand where they were rooted, and to release the emotional pain held within them. After three years of continuously living and traveling with Ammachi in India and on her world tours, in 1996 she gave me her blessing to return to the U.S. and to practice this healing work in the West. For the lack of my having encountered any similar technique resembling it, I have simply decided to name this work, “Depth Healing.” Depth Healing may be considered a methodology for removing the reactive emotional buttons or wounds responsible for the pain, disease, and the many blocks that we face to reaching our life goals. When these wounds are addressed, people have experienced break throughs in releasing undesirable relationship patterns, in moving through long standing blocks to achieving important life goals, and finding new strength and ease in overcoming addictions and habits. In addition to emotional healing, more rapid physical healing also follows… Back pain, neck pain, tension patterns, fibromyalgia, shoulder, hip & orthopedic problems, as well as many other bodily conditions and diseases with a stress or psychological component have been found to respond exceedingly well.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
In each session, I set a goal that each healing client will walk away in a state of bliss and joy, in addition to reaching their stated session goals. During the healing work, I jump in the well — so to speak — of each of my client’s emotional pain and distress. We then, therefore end up both moving together through the depths of their life’s challenges during our healing journey, until we both come out feeling we’ve reached a state of inner joy. It’s often a bit arduous, but each time that happens, which is the case with most healing sessions I do, that breakthrough moment becomes the next proudest moment of my career.
