Meet Alex Terranova of DreamMason®️ Coaching & Consulting in San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Terranova.

Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Roughly five years ago, I was checking all the boxes of a successful life, great job, beautiful intelligent girlfriend, nice apartment in New York City, no debt, saving money, and traveling often. I was in pretty good shape. And… I was miserable, I was negative, and more often than not I acted like a jerk.

I didn’t like my job, I didn’t want to live in New York, I wasn’t fulfilled or satisfied and spent most of my time distracting myself with TV, Netflix, sports, drinking, and working out. My future wasn’t promising but I didn’t know what I wanted or what to do to change anything.

And then Costa Rica happened.

I sat around the dinner table with my family, and my cousin asked what we were all grateful for. When it got to me, I didn’t banter or joke as I typically would and for the first time, maybe in my life, I started to answer honestly. But before I even began, it was like The Universe punched me right in the nose. I broke into tears and felt overwhelming gratitude for all that I realized I did have, my family, health, abundance, financial security, love, and support.

When I got back to New York I decided I was going to change my life. I quit watching sports and tv, and I committed to reading a book a week and educating myself. I cut down on my drinking and focused more on networking and personal growth. Next thing I knew I was meeting coaches. I thought they were a little crazy with all their positivity and possibility. But after meeting seven in a row I couldn’t’ keep fighting what it seemed life wanted me to try, a coaching session.

In 90-minutes with a coach, my mind was absolutely blown. It was the first time in my life I realized I was 100% responsible for my life and everything about it. I was the common denominator of my problems and my successes and if I wanted my life to change I had to change. But instead of just hiring a coach, I signed up for the most advanced and rigorous leadership and coach training program. The rest is history. I’ve been coaching professionally for 4 years, Hosting The DreamMason Podcast, which is approaching Episode 100, and working on two books. The first, Fictional Authenticity, will be out later this year.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, about as smooth a road as any in San Diego, which includes potholes, bumps, unmarked lanes, constant construction, accidents, and of course the random person that cuts you off for no reason. (Laughs)

Honestly, it’s been great, and it’s also been challenging. And that’s good because nothing exceptional is achieved easily. The road has truly been one of ups and downs, highs and lows. And isn’t that life. Getting new clients, and finding the right clients for me, is always on-going. Creating content, materials, running social media, networking, hosting a podcast, and working on my two books can be exhausting and doing it myself is probably the biggest challenge.

While I’ve run other people’s businesses in the past, I’ve never had my own company, so there’s a learning curve. There’s also going from the hospitality industry to being an entrepreneur. There are months that I truly impress myself and months that just kick my butt. I do believe we can’t fail if we keep at it, so I think about something my Dad told me when I started out, just keep working, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and don’t give up.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DreamMason®️ Coaching & Consulting – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
DreamMason Coaching & Consulting is a Performance Coaching and Consulting Company. I host my own Podcast, The DreamMason Podcast which is nearing its’ 100th episode, and guest co-host a podcast with one of my mentors. I am also working on two books and developing additional inspirational media projects.

As a coach, I specialize in several areas. I work with athletes and former athletes to identify their limiting beliefs and support them in expanding their business goals outside of their sport. I have great interest and receive positive response supporting strong and successful men to boldly declare what they want, get real about what’s in the way and create the strategies to achieve greater clarity, freedom, and prosperity in their lives. Often these are Executives, CEO’s, and the founders of Startups. Additionally, I provide coaching and consulting to small businesses and corporations, working with teams to improve their communication, develop and achieve their goals, and empower their members, personally and organizationally, to lead more vital and fulfilling lives.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I believe anything is possible. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy or without commitment and effort, but living a remarkable and thriving life is possible and that’s my number one plan. In other words, my goal is to find the joy in my life even when it’s challenging, confronting, and the chips are stacked against me.

As for what I’m currently up to, hitting episode 100 on The DreamMason Podcast is a big deal. When I started I had no idea what I was doing and I wasn’t going to let that stop me. My original plan was to get to 100 episodes so I’m pretty fired up that I am so close to that goal. What’s next is to keep it going, grow the listener base, and advance into a visual media platform.

My first book, Fictional Authenticity, will be out before the end of this year, and my second will be out in 2020. Moving forward from there I’m determined to publish a book a year for the next ten years. That is scary and exciting.

In my practice, I’m looking forward to working with a professional sports team as well as adding more corporate clients. I’m already doing what I love, so I don’t think there are any dramatic changes but there is always learning, shifting and expanding as I continue to liberate my imagination as I grow and enhance my mind and my heart.
