Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Campbell.
Hi Dustin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started Harbell Home because I wanted to be more present with my family as a truck driver; I was missing everything. I also really missed working with metal, something I have done since I was a kid, building bumpers in my dad’s garage. When Covid hit, I used that downtime to start our company. While I initially started out creating customizations for vehicles, my wife quickly realized that I could make home decor and garden art, which we sell on Esty and promote on our Instagram, where customers get a behind-the-scenes look at how our products are made.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but smooth! During Covid, metal prices skyrocketed, making it really hard to sell our products at a reasonable price. As a result, sales slowed down dramatically, causing us to temporarily shut down our Etsy shop. My wife struggles with her health and has to have spinal fusion surgery this past year. Through it all, we have stayed focused on our goals to build a business that allows us to be present in our children’s lives.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Harbell Home, we specialize in metal! We do everything from home and garden decor to more customized work, such as business signs and vehicle modifications. We also create a lot of personalized items like address signs and barbecue grill grates. At Harbell Home, we loves our customers, and we work hard to make their ideas a reality, working with them step by step through the whole process. Because we are small family-run business, we are really willing and able to work around our customers’ needs.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being able to provide for and be present for our family while also being creative is what makes us happy and fulfilled. It’s not easy, and we struggle, but it’s worth it because we are doing it for us. We also want to create a company that is welcoming to its customers to create a small-town feel even if our customers are states away. That’s why we created the Harbell Home Instagram to connect with our customers on a deeper level. They can see their products being made as well as what else we have going on around the house.
