Meet Dylan Webber of Point Loma Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Webber.

Hi Dylan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Point Loma Acupuncture was founded in January 2025 by Dr. J. Dylan Webber DACM, L. Ac. He was invited to join forces with a well-established clinic in the area called Peninsula Chiropractic. Dr, Dylan grew up in Point Loma and aspired to be like his father Dr. Jim Webber MD, who practiced allopathic medicine in Ocean Beach for 40+ years. He watched his father, a pillar for the community, provide healthcare all over San Diego. His emphasis on a more “organic” approach to medicine planted the seed in his son’s mind about modern medicine. Dr. Dylan obtained his pre-med degree at UC Santa Cruz and returned home to San Diego a few years after. He wrote his thesis on acupuncture and herbal medicine and was exposed to the world of East Asian medicine by interning with practitioners and receiving acupuncture treatments. Upon returning home to San Diego, he immediately enrolled to get licensed as an acupuncturist. He graduated Pacific College of Health Sciences in April 2021 and began practicing in San Diego. After about 3 years of gaining experience working in the profession, he had finally found a location from which he could start his own practice AND provide for the local community his father once served. Peninsula Chiropractic offered space in their office to share, and Point Loma Acupuncture was founded. The first acupuncture and East Asian medical office dedicated to serving the local community of the greater peninsula area.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was relatively smooth in terms of settling into an already established clinic. Dr. Dylan had been a patient there previously and had rapport with the staff. The roughest part I would say is the logistics of providing care to patients using their health insurance. At our office, we believe in patient-centered care, and the best way to do that is to make your services accessible to as many patients as possible. Providing care through a patient’s health insurance is the most cost-effective way of getting care for the patient, and we do our best to meet patients where they are in terms of that. As a practitioner and business owner, providing for insurance companies is highly complex and can be difficult. Dr. Dylan has had the most trouble with that and is still working hard to make sure he is able to provide accessible healthcare to everyone possible, not just the ones who can afford it.

We’ve been impressed with Point Loma Acupuncture, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Point Loma Acupuncture is a part of a well-established clinic called Peninsula Chiropractic Group. At this center, we provide acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine, fire-cupping, manual therapies, massage therapy, assisted stretching, cold laser therapy, and several other services to provide a “one-stop-shop” for the local community. Located in the Loma Starr building near the junction of Lytton street and Rosecrans street, just off the 5 freeway and Pacific Highway.

Our clinic provides a medical-style approach in all aspects of offerings. One can expect prompt, professional, comprehensive service in a personable and friendly manner. At our office, doctors and practitioners are able to collaborate and provide integrative care in real-time, as we share the same office and clientele. We pride ourselves in our level of care, in that it is all in one place, and it is extremely integrated and streamlined. It’s rare for a brand to be able to touch on so many areas in one visit, and even more rare that the quality of care is of the highest caliber.

We are also proud to be able to accept a broad range of health insurances that makes it easy for patients to get care. Whether your insurance is basic or comprehensive, our office adapts and offers services tailored to fit what is appropriate. Patients are welcome to upgrade and add-on services not covered by insurance if applicable.

Our owner and practitioner Dr. Dylan specializes in Japanese Meridian Therapy acupuncture, which utilizes gentle, nearly painless needle techniques, as well as emphasis on other modalities such as moxibustion, contact-needling, gua sha scraping, massage/manual therapy, and fire cupping to tailor the needs of the patient with the most appropriate and least-invasive methods. This style of acupuncture is perfect for those nervous about “needles” part of the medicine. Dr. Dylan has a strong interest in Traditional Chinese herbalism and provides easy-to-administer herbal medicine for those who may benefit.

As patients begin their treatment plans and start to build consistent visits, they can expect to learn about themselves through the lens of East Asian medical theory and are thus, empowered with a new understanding to make more educated decisions in their everyday lives when it comes to their lifestyles and habits. Undergoing a treatment plan with a doctor of East Asian medicine will provide an alternative understanding of how the body works and patients are able to keep that knowledge for the rest of their lives and use it to live healthier and age gracefully.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite books are mainly translations of traditional Chinese and Japanese medical texts. Some books I enjoy are historical and philosophical, like classics of both Eastern and Western philosophies. I believe that understanding our history can help us understand the present and what the future might bring. An age-old saying I think about is: “why try to re-invent the wheel”. Mankind has already done a lot of the heavy-lifting.

The people that have personally provided interesting insights to health are Dr. Andrew Huberman, the works of Dr. Paul Saladino, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Gary Brecka, and much more.

I also use a health tracking app WHOOP, which I started earlier this year. This app, and I’m assuming most health tracking devices, provides very insightful information about my health on a fundamental level; Mainly parametric data on cardiovascular health and sleep, it has been a useful tool for me to reference. In my medicine, it’s all about balance, and surrounded in a world of “hustle culture”, it’s easy to get lost. Having these parameters, and being able to reflect on them has helped me make more informed decisions and live an overall healthier life.
