Meet Edna Tilton of North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edna Tilton

Hi Edna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started back in 2018 when I was attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa. We were required to have 2 400 hour internships by the time we graduated and I was fortunate enough to land one with an incredible wedding planner. Through that internship I not only learned planning, layout design, rentals + client relationships; I got to try my hand at arranging. Something in my brain clicked and I have been hooked ever since.
I worked for this planner for a couple years after graduation specializing in flowers, social media, and rentals / layouts and absolutely fell in love with the wedding industry. I moved home to Florida for about 8 months in 2023 where I then worked for a daily flower shop and grew into my career even more. I got to understanding the flow of daily arrangements, importance of flower maintenance + continued working events + weddings. When I decided to move to San Diego this past year, I was working for another daily shop when I decided it was time to try my own thing.
So hence the birth of Alchemist Floral Company; I really wanted to show off my creativity + attract clients who want to blend the beauty of nature with a touch of magic.
I am currently an at home studio florist with hopes of having a storefront / working space within the next year. I am still in my startup era so networking, marketing + building my brand is my main goal at the moment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my favorite quotes is “nothing worth having comes easy” so no the road has not been smooth. Being a new business owner has already had its challenges, and of course self doubts, but everything is an opportunity to learn and grow which I am so thankful for.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do custom floral designs for weddings + events. I am known for my thoughtful color pallets, flower choices, and client relationships. I really like to get to know my clients and their visions because I love what I do and I really pride myself in wow-ing them. I would say what sets me apart from others is funky design and love for tropicals.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would say I love taking risks; life is all about taking risks and seizing every opportunity to chase your dreams no matter what obstacle could be in your way. My major risk is starting this company – San Diego is filled with talented florist and being new to the city is risky because of my lack of network + oversaturated market. I will say one thing about me is I love to talk to people and make connections, I truly believe in myself and being able to pull off creating a successful business within this next year.
