Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Aponte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Edward. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story begins in my early teens when I made my first trip to Dayton, Ohio from Puerto Rico in the Late 80’s which was the heart of the Ninja Boom in the west. As a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, I was fascinated by Stephen K Hayes first book that chronicled his training odyssey in Japan searching to become the first westerner to be accepted by Dr. Massaki Hatsumi 34th generation Ninja Grandmaster. I was hooked and for the past 30 plus years I’ve been a student of Stephen K Hayes, western world’s foremost authority on Ninjutsu.
Has it been a smooth road?
In the early days, by that I mean the 80’s, when my teacher Stephen K Hayes had just returned from Japan and news of his training spread far and wide he held seminars and what would be called Ninja Festivals in those days you could find a skinny teenager from Puerto Rico training side by side with international government personnel who had been sent for “specialized training” the Ninja boom fuel by movies such as “The Octagon” a Chuck Norris movie paved the road for those of us interested in more than kicking and punching to training in a complete Martial art. In the early days the struggle was no internet or email so everything was done the old fashion way; corresponding by mail.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Certified Ninja Club – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I teach what is known as To-Shin-Do a modern interpretation of the Ninja Martial arts. While I teach the physical basics like punching and kinking I’m known for my personal emphasis on the Ninja mind science curriculum. I have many students who come from other martial arts and crave a deeper sense of discovery and the ninja mind science curriculum gives you that form improving mental focus and concentration to the development of the energy force known as chi. Another unique feature of Certified Ninja Club is I teach one on one class instead of the usual class of 10 rows of students 10 deep while that works for some I’m a traditional teacher doing it the old fashion way when a master would dedicate a small space known as a dojo to teach a handful of students, Yes, I choose you not the other way around, in fact I turn down more student than I accept. But if you are fortunate to become a student of the Ninja Martial arts you’ll never be the same.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best of our city is the weather, beaches, bars, eateries, and local parks. What I like the least is California traffic.
