Today we’d like to introduce you to Eleonor Ortiz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eleonor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved to write. Writing was a way for me to escape my reality, growing up. I didn’t have it easy, but creating my own fantasy worlds on paper got me through the hard times. Born in the Bronx, raised in the mid-west and now living my dream in the west coast, I’ve seen a lot in my life. But nothing is sweeter than watching my ten-year-old son grow. He and I have been on this crazy ride of life together. I raise him all on my own and I’m proud of it.
Starting out as a single mom was hard. It was discouraging for me many times and there were days I didn’t think I could make it. But the most important thing I learned was to press on. I almost gave up on my dream to publish this book. I made a promise to myself that I would be an example to my son and work so hard to reach my dreams so that he could do the same for himself someday. One day, my son and I walked through Barnes and Noble and as I stared at a bookshelf, I sighed and said, “Gee, I wonder when I will see my own book on these shelves.” My son replied and said, “When you don’t give up.” It was all I needed in order to get where I am right now with this book.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I originally published this book back in 2018. The book was not received well by readers. Nobody got hooked. After all the blood, sweat and tears put into writing Keepers of Fate, I became discouraged and took it off the market. One day, I decided to get back in the game and make changes. I changed the cover, some of the content, etc. I had a roller coaster of a ride, though. Many days, I wanted to give up and not move forward because it was a lot of work and energy I needed to invest and I didn’t feel like I had the time or the motivation. Trying to raise a kid on my own in a new city, working more than full time and make something out of myself. I didn’t have time to realize any dreams. Many nights, I cried out of frustration. I even became broke at one point. I didn’t feel like I had the right amount of support I needed to carry on and feel motivated. I felt alone.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a self-published author. I am known for writing my Keepers of Fate story. I am most proud of the accomplishment of writing an entire book that will be eventually be a trilogy. I feel like what sets me apart from others is the way I see the world. I allow my imagination and creativity to take control sometimes. People may not agree with that but I believe it’s what makes life exciting. Boredom is not my jam.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The way I define success is persistence and passion. I have always been a firm believer that passion creates success. If you don’t believe in something with your whole heart, you’ll lose faith in your vision very quickly, like I did at one point. Passion will drive you to your finish line in full force, leading to your success. Pay attention to the way your heart beats when you think about your ultimate goal and your dreams. If it’s racing at the thought, that’s called passion. Never forget the way you originally felt.
