Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Amor Centrullo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making wreaths a few years ago for my own home decor. In 2017 I started with a full and colorful Halloween wreath and then started making some for Christmas and from there, I was hooked. Fast forward to today, once again I was looking for new decor and needed a wreath so I got to work. One of my very good friends then asked me for a Sunflower grapevine wreath and she insisted on paying for it. Then there was Mother’s Day and I made more for gifts for the family. This is where the flags come in. Father’s Day was approaching and I needed a gift for my husband. I wanted to make him something that he would love and that’s when I saw the rustic wood American flags. I started doing my research and decided to go for it. I made a 19×36 wood rustic flag and he loved it. The more people he showed it off to the more people asked me to make them one. Knowing that my handmade pieces could be on display in people’s homes, I just knew it was time to jump in. And so started Wreaths and Flags By Amor. (Amor is my middle name).
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m very new to the business of selling handmade pieces. There are so many people out there doing the same as you and having the world take your work seriously is very difficult. Putting yourself and your work out there in front of everyone to love or to judge is a very humbling experience.
You learn very fast who your support system is and how hard it is to jump-start a business. It’s more than just a hobby. There’s advertising, inventory, branding, finding the new trends and making sure you are prepared for orders and shipping. There is so much more going on than just making the piece itself. I’ve made many mistakes but learning from them has been very rewarding.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wreaths & Flags By Amor – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Wreaths and Flags by Amor specialize in exactly that. Wreaths for all occasions and wood flags, specifically American Flags. My company gives a little bit of color, fun, beauty and rustic charm with our wreaths and patriotism with our flags. We love our country and appreciate everything it has done and given us.
My love for the rustic farmhouse look inspires my rustic wood burned flags. However, I’ve had several custom orders for different flags and if I feel I can build it I will do everything I can to make it happen and make my customers happy. I strive to make a quality product and make wreaths that symbolize an occasion, a holiday or a season and flags that represent who we are. I want my products to be a staple in your home for years to come.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My vision for the future is to become more established in my community to create a strong referral base and Expand my facilities to a workshop with a small storefront. I grew up in San Diego and I just love our beautiful city and our weather! I mean, lately, it’s been a little too hot but overall… you cannot beat it! We are a sports family and we love our Padres. San Diego is well known for producing amazing athletes and I am proud to coach such great kids. (I coach High School softball at Mater Dei Catholic). I least like that SD is getting over-crowded. But I understand why people come here… it’s beautiful.
