Hi Elizabeth , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dark Identity Designs is run by a husband and wife team working out of beautiful San Diego, CA. Wade and Elizabeth compliment each other by taking their different skill sets and working together to push more art, creativity and beauty into what sometimes feels like a dark world. Wade being the true artist he is, continually improving his skill set from the time he was a young child, has discovered his true passion and purpose in life, art. He is constantly surprising everyone with truly one of a kind creations that leave you amazed and sometimes confused as to how he did it. Lucky for Elizabeth, his wife, she gets to ride along this journey with him while enjoying her own passion, the art of selling and business. Wade and Elizabeth decided to come together and start this venture over 10 years ago when they were expecting their first born son. After a successful start up and many happy customers they slowed down while bringing in another member of their family, their beautiful daughter. Now that the timing is more fitting, Elizabeth has reopened for business while Wade continues to create one of a kind pieces she proudly and happily shares with our community. Their goal is to live their life doing what they feel is their true passion all while doing it together as a family. All they want is to bring art and beauty into the lives of our community, one skull at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle we face is learning how to expand through eCommerce. Our true passion is to be out in our community selling face to face. As an artist meeting your customers and knowing they truly enjoy our art brings us so much joy. As the ever changing world continues to push online shopping we have no choice but to jump on board! So far we have joined many selling online communities and have a successful online website but there is still much to learn.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an aspiring entrepreneur when you know you have a good product you can’t help but start a business! What sets us apart from others is that we create, produce, and ship all our own products. Our hands touch every product. We are most known for our Hand Made Concrete Skull Planters. Our planters are made entirely by hand out of concrete. Each one offers its own personality and is a one of a kind piece of art. Each one is completely original, we don’t ever use a mold!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk we have faced is outsourcing. Because we take such pride in the quality of our products and our reputation, we struggle to sometimes find trust worthy resources.
