Meet Emilia Perdue of Thriving & Organized in Temecula

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilia Perdue.

Emilia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Energetic. Enthusiastic. Hyper-Focused. Motivated. Obsessive. Passionate. Excited. Efficient. Organized. Thriving. All these words and more are what make Thriving & Organized my dream come true. Organizing was always just something I did and being organized was just who I was. I loved coming home from work and “unwinding” by cleaning the house and reorganizing a closet. I was always making plans to take on a new space in the house and strive to make everything more efficient, functional and aesthetically pleasing. I take great joy in keeping counters free of clutter and making sure everything is in its designated place. I love nothing more than having my surroundings be welcoming, peaceful and tidy. It’s just the way I am wired.

I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised when friends and family started approaching me for help. Most people hate organizing and would rather continue to shove things in the cabinet and shut then door than deal with it. Thankfully, that is my idea of a perfect afternoon. After each “support session” I’ll call them, those people started saying, “You should do this”. -My response, “Do what?”. -Them-“THIS! Organize for people” -Me-“Ha! I wish”. Well, in 2018 I made that wish a reality.

After my twins were born in 2014, I cut back to part time at work. Enter my third son in 2016, still part time, but becoming more disinterested in my career. I was no longer feeling fulfilled. My heart wasn’t in my work and my main priority was my boys. I became obsessed with trying to determine what I could do to contribute financially but also have the freedom to make my schedule and put my family first. Oh, and if I could actually enjoy doing it, that wouldn’t be so bad either.

When I found out I was pregnant with my fourth son I knew not only was I crazy for having four boys in four years, but also this was the time. No more fear about the unknown, it was time to take action and believe in myself the way my loved ones believed in me. What was the worst thing that could happen? Do I have to go back to my career? I was lucky to have such an option and was ready to leap. I was going to become an Organizing Specialist!

I spent my entire pregnancy creating Thriving & Organized. I researched other specialists and created my own brand, approach, style and techniques. I started marketing myself, gathering clients and booking jobs. I was able to create my own schedule, prioritize the needs of my family all while pursuing my passion and helping people thrive. I was amazed at how liberating it was to choose when to be away from my children and love every second away from them by doing something I enjoyed so deeply.

It has been one year since my “fifth baby” was born and this journey has been incredible. I have met some amazing people, taken on some wonderful projects and am proud to have created my professional happiness. I too am thriving and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Has it been a smooth road?
From the dream to the reality wasn’t always smooth. There were a lot of tears, fears and anxieties associated with leaving my career to build a business. I spent so long in school to advance in my profession and the sheer terror of just walking away was often paralyzing. Once I was able to take my idea seriously and present it to my family it became more real. I was lucky enough to be able to work and build my business at the same time so the transition wasn’t quite as terrifying. It didn’t hurt that our growing family only fueled my motivation to finally make a change. I needed to put my boys first and have the flexibility to design a schedule that worked for us. We made it happen. We being myself, my husband and my mommy.

My “team” as I call them are the real heroes. My husband supported my decision to take time off work to focus on the children while building T&O. My mommy not only spent countless hours listening to me brainstorm and helping create a business plan but she watches the boys so I can take clients. Without them there wouldn’t be a Thriving & Organized, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
