Meet Emmy Farese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmy Farese.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emmy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hi, my name is Emmy Farese. I have been a performer since I was in kindergarten. Starting with school plays I was always happy to be on stage and tell a story. I gravitated to musical theatre given that I had also been in dance lessons from a very young age. Musical Theatre was exhilarating, used up my crazy childhood energy, and taught me discipline. I had wonderful opportunities performing professionally in musical theatre starting in second grade. I continued to perform in school, community, and professional productions through my high school and college careers.

I am a San Diego State University Class of 2020 Graduate. I just earned my BA in Theatre Arts Performance: Acting & Musical Theatre as well as a Minor in Gerontology (the study of aging). I could not have enjoyed my time at school more with the amazing opportunities that I received. Despite COVID-19 dramatically changing my final semester of college, I am overjoyed to have just graduated and to be getting out into the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had pretty smooth sailing to get to where I am today. I have always been a driven person, determined to do my best in whatever I do. One “struggle” so-to-speak, would be moving across the country several times as a child. While moving was a pain to me back then, I am and always have been grateful to have lived on both coasts of the US. I have met so many amazing and different people.

COVID-19 turned everyone’s lives around. Dealing with these turbulent times has been my greatest struggle of 2020. Luckily, my creativity sparked and I found new activities to do such as tie-dying shirts and numerous YouTube exercise videos.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Since I have just graduated, I am currently pursuing a career combining my loves of Musical Theatre and Gerontology. My goal is to one day be an Activities Director for seniors as well as continue to pursue professional musical theatre. I plan to intertwine my love of acting, musical theatre, and music with the activities I plan.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Two of the most important qualities to my success are staying positive along with always being a fantastic team player. These two qualities combined have been beneficial to me time after time. I make sure to be the person that I know I would want to work with. Staying positive helps situations immensely as well. A third quality that is beneficial to success is always making sure to listen to others.
