Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Wong.
Eric, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an interdisciplinary artist, visual art and design portfolio consultant, academic advisor, and curator. I’ve worked with artists, collectors, educators, non-profit organizations, businesses, and community leaders, as an artistic director, independent curator, and artist. Working on large-scale contemporary art expositions and curatorial projects. In San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles from 1997-present.
I’m currently launching the 4th edition of Hotels/Motes (Unofficial Art Fair 2018) at the Lafayette Hotel on Dec 14 & 15. This year will involve over a hundred artists and curators from all over San Diego and Los Angeles, transforming hotel rooms into contemporary art galleries, theatrical stages, and creative project spaces.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always been plenty of obstacles, but all of the unexpected adversity has worked to strengthen my resolve and help me navigate with more autonomy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fallen Tree Exhibitions – what should we know?
Inspired by Amos Wilson’s quote, “If we desire a better world, we must name the world we desire,” Fallen Tree Exhibitions is in part a utopian initiative that renames, reimagines, and transforms, urban & suburban forests into redefined contemporary art spaces. My goal with Fallen Tree Exhibitions is to activate and excite communities with contemporary arts programming, creative place-making, and cultural capital.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
A vision to create something new, and an inherent tenacity to see it through.
