Meet Erin Morrow of VALLEY CENTER

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Morrow.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my business Ma and Pa’s Attic in 2012, so I could stay at home to raise, care for and homeschool my two children who have struggled with health issues. I love all things vintage and antique and had been a collector for years before, so it seemed like a great fit. Prior to starting the business I worked as a self representing artist and I’ve used a lot of those skills in restoring and repurposing antique and vintage treasures.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think one of the biggest challenges when I first started was juggling a business and the care and education of my children. As the business grew it was not being able to take time off. Over the years the business grew steadily, but sadly 7 years ago my husband passed away. It’s been an adjustment to say the least. Raising, homeschooling two kids, running a business and learning to juggle everything that life brings has changed plans a bit. We may soon be relocating out of state as the cost of living is difficult to maintain as a single mom.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I buy and sell vintage and antique items. Some of the items need repair, restoration and sometimes I get creative in repurposing old items into something new. I love hunting for and discovering old things whether they are rusty old parts, industrial, architectural salvage and giving them a new purpose and life. You never know where inspiration will strike.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My kid’s have kept me going over the years. They have been my helpers whether accompaning me to estate sales, thrift stores and finding treasures with me, encouraging me every step of the way. Now that they are older they help with customers, packaging, shipping.
