Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Szikla.
Yvonne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A former corporate event planner, I launched Events with a Purpose and Affairs with Flair in 2007. After planning numerous events for top management in the U.S. and abroad, including media parties, fashion shows, executive functions, galas, etc., I launched my own business to meld and incorporate my love for design and creativity with the logistical aspects of event planning.
My events and several interviews have been published in CA Meetings and Events Magazine and Successful Meetings magazine.
I am a graduate of Michigan State University and have a degree from the University of CA, San Diego in Special Events and Meeting Management. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, I have lived and traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Europe.
A tennis enthusiast, skier and former equestrian, I am a member of:
-Editorial advisory board for CA Meetings and Events Magazine,
-Advisory Council, Summit for Stem Cell, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, CA
-NACE (San Diego chapter)
-SD Tourism Authority.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting and running your own business has its challenges, tests your patience, commitment and forces you to wear many hats, not all of the fun or even enjoyable! I think learning is continuous. Improving your processes, managing your time, etc etc. I honestly don’t think any entrepreneur can say its a smooth road! It has its ups and downs but time, experience and good business advice helps a lot to smooth the road!
