Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezra Spurrier.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I mostly grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to California in the summer of 2001. I came here with an interest in studying filmmaking, a subject I had been fascinated with since my childhood. While I was in the process of getting everything in order to begin my schooling, I realized that I also enjoyed taking photos, so I ended up studying both topics. After I finished with college, I started my photography business as a full-time endeavor in 2007. I shoot fashion, bands, jewelry, documentary and various other subjects, along with my own creative projects. Several years ago, I also dived back into filmmaking. I currently shoot music videos, short films, and commercials.
Please tell us about your art.
For my creative projects, I prefer to shoot on practical locations, as compared to in a studio. I am drawn to shooting with natural light, or very dramatic lighting often involving a heavy use of color. I tend to lean towards a hyper-realism, that is still somewhat grounded.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
It’s good to explore as many different styles of your art as you can until you find what works best for you. Don’t try to create a style, let your style come to you organically based on what you find works best for you, and inspires you to be creative.
