Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Tyler.
First, I’m a mother of a beautiful daughter, and she lives in San Francisco. I originally worked in corporate America as a Medicare Biller and Compliance Officer. I was laid off about five years ago, after taking some time off I started taking Reformer Pilates classes. I really enjoyed it so much, I shortly decided I would get certified to teach.
After obtaining my certification, I began instructing some small group classes in a small studio in the downtown San Diego area. I later met some women who were doing these Muscle Contest in the Bikini Division; I then decided to enter my first show as a Figure Competitor in June 2016.
I placed in the top five in the Masters Group which is 35+ and 40+ age brackets, I was hooked and went on to do well in the next two shows that year. I then decided to go one step further and obtain my Personal Trainer Certification which has brought me to training a wide range of people, and I truly love doing it.
I still continue to compete at the same time while training my clients. I am a part of an amazing team call Team Titan based out of Pacific Beach; they assist and help me with the competition prep when I’m gearing up to compete.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, with anything in life when you make a drastic change in your career it can be tough, you’re basically starting from zero. There were some bumps in the road, absolutely, but for the most part, it’s been smooth sailing. If it’s something you believe in and are passionate about somehow the bumps get smoothed out, and you keep going.
When you put your mind to being successful, and you work hard eventually things start to fall into place. But when they don’t, you pick up and keep going. I’m a firm believer of “The Secert” you put out there what you want to get back.
I’m pretty much a one-woman show. I provide Customized Personal Training Programs and Nutrition Guidance. I’m in the process right now on obtaining my Nutrition Certification which is a key component in anyone’s fitness success.
I travel to multiple locations either to the clients home gym or building gym or to “The Gym” located in Pacific Beach. I’m also a staff Personal Trainer at AquaVie Wellness and Fitness Center in Downtown San Diego. I’m the Booty Band Queen! I love using these bands, and all of my clients love to hate them.
I’m so proud that I’m able to help people really reach their fitness goals and feeling confident about themselves. I’m pretty unique in the way I create a bond with all of my clients not just professionally but on a more personal level. I really make it a priority to make it about them and how to create a fun and enjoyable workout and something you are not dreading every week.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I try to listen to everyone’s wants, needs, and goals. I’m very attentive to my clients during our sessions, and I’m very in tune to what’s going on with their bodies.
