Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Trimlett.
Scott, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Foothills Art Association is a nearly 70-year all-volunteer peer non-profit organization which was established and continues as an art guild bringing art-minded artists and people together. We currently have about 160 members and are located at our Porter Hall Gallery (the oldest parts of which were originally built in 1928 by the Porter family and the special curved roof=lines reflect their fond memories of their earlier life spent in China).
Our Foothills Art group promotes fine arts and offers educational and exhibition opportunities to our members and others in and outside our community. We offer well received Guest Artist demonstrations and workshops in which budding and professional fellow artists can learn new skills and insights. During the year we hold very popular annual art shows, including (but not limited to) the Juried Membership Show in April, the Small Image Show in October for our members and the open juried and judged Wildlife in Art Show in November which attracts artists from many parts of California.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As an all volunteer organization we are very lucky indeed to have a collection of dedicated, enthusiastic and talented group of people in our membership, committees and Board staff. When there are unforeseen challenges, such as a planned Guest demonstrating artist not being able to partake at the last minute, then we have a strong group of capable and creative members and staff who jump in quickly to fill the void for our member’s benefit.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Foothills Art Association story. Tell us more about the business.
Our group is known for promoting and generating interest and educational opportunities in our community as well as making contribution donations to local school needs and other regional arts needs and show support. As a volunteer non-profit organization, we are totally focused on developing artistic creativity and appreciation for our members and others in the area rather than making a buck.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Success and luck are all in the mind of the beholder. In my life, I cherish the family and friends that Heather and I have grown up with and love. In business, I spent 42 years at the same company viewing each day as being full of new challenges and development to be worked through for my perceived very successful career in the aerospace business. Now, retired, I’m back in business (so to speak) exploring my artistic passions and helping our Foothills Art group develop with the help of my fellow members.
