Meet Gekel Gossett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gekel Gossett.

Hi Gekel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So Lazy Luna & Company is my home essentials business that I started early August of this year. My best friend introduced me to this DIY, I want to say… back in December of 2021. I started off my business hand-making chunky blankets as my first product. My business and brand pays homage to my grandmother whose middle name is “luna”. She was my number one inspiration for all things beautiful in the home. Because of her, I was exposed to HGTV at a young age and completely fell in love with anything renovation, interior design, cooking, garden. & So, I carried that love of homes and the endless possibilities surrounding someone’s home with me. I officially opened up my online store mid-August and have since enjoyed every part of hand-knitting new things for everyone to see and enjoy. The tangles and imperfections that lead up to something so aesthetically pleasing to look at is my favorite part. My brand is about making homes a place of peace starting with the things you fill it with. For me, a house is just a house until you fill it with the things that highlight your personality and spirit. Calm, Cozy & Comfortable is how I would describe my own home, and I look forward to that being the theme of my brand. I’m starting off with hand-knitted blankets but plan to fill my store with all kinds of home essentials. To get to this point, it took a lot of dedication, research, and willpower. Never giving up on a passion or goal is the mindset I choose to keep during my business venture.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but what road ever is? I love to think that if something is too easy to achieve, then I missed out on a lot of learning experiences and didn’t have the opportunity for growth. So yes, the road for me has been an uphill battle. I started a kid’s clothing business during covid for my son, and that was taking off then I started having issues with my mental health, fell into dark places… so much so that I needed time to just focus on myself. I put that business on ice and plan to revisit it in the future, but in finding my peace of mind, I really tapped into what it is I truly enjoyed and began to just admire my genuine interests. Thus, I created Lazy Luna & Company. I’ve had my challenges with this business as well on the marketing and budgeting side of things… you want something to take off so fast, but you tend to forget the finesse it takes before you get to that point & being a young business owner, I’m always doing my research so that every bit of my business is done correctly without forgetting to include my personal touches. On my journey with this business my main focus is to make sure my mental health is my number one priority in order for me to fully prosper.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Ultimately what I do is create, I hyper-focus on appearance and feeling. So how something looks; and how it makes a person feel. & Then just incorporate that with my own imagination. I’m human just like everyone else, I just have a strong passion for creation and desire to share that with the world in any way that I can. I’m also very OCD and much so a perfectionist even though I’m a strong believer in imperfection is perfection at its finest… with lazy luna, I focus on every little detail and make sure I love it first so when my creations get to the customer…they love it too. I’ve always been creative, and it goes back into my childhood. Drawing, painting, calligraphy, graphic art, makeup…it all starts with art, and I believe art is a big chunk of who I am & why I am able to succeed at certain things. I’m not afraid to put my mind on paper or share my crafts.

I have this go-getter mentality, and when I see a vision for myself, I jump in full force and take every step necessary to reach my goal. No quitting, there may be a few mental breaks but no quitting. I have a 7-year-old son who is my number one supporter and critique, and he drives me to do so much more, I just want to show him that passions turn into lifestyles.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
