Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerson Olivos.
Gerson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Gerson and Tello started at J street Marina Park with around 60 clients in June 2017. We used to do Daily workout in the morning and afternoon while we were getting approve to our physical location. That took 7 months, in January 2018 we got the lease of our 1st location in 1172 third avenue Chula vista, only one month later in February 10 we open doors to the public, we finished that opening month with 101 clients. We stayed in that location 5 years we grew 200%.
One year before our lease finishes, we started to look for a bigger location and we found it 4 months before. We moved in May 2023 to 2550 Main Street Ste. B and currently we operate one of the best Cross training gyms in the area, is fully equipped and we have around 7000 sq. ft. with 240 clients now.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been easy with our beautiful community we fell totally backed up. We went through COVID and survive, that was probably the hardest part of the road up to now. We had to pause all the memberships, apply to some government grants, we got them and used them to pay rent and payroll.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Here at Functional Republic, we do Cross Training which is a super complimentary training for any other sport or discipline. This training helps to increase your strength, mobility and conditioning. We also enjoy hosting HUGE competitions in the area with money and sponsors prizes. Beside the training we also have our staff

Customer service is our priority, if you have a good coach-client relation you always going to know why your client is with you and what are they needing’s.
To have our gym fully equipped and updated, is one of the best reasons that we have this big community.
Cleaning is mandatory. We are not like a regular gym with dust everywhere, we have been known one of the cleanest gyms in the area.
