Meet Harin Khalsa of Khalsa Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harin Khalsa.

Harin Khalsa

Hi Harin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Harin Khalsa. My early years were spent with my grandmother in England. She showed me the power of unconditional love and gave me a sense of belonging. She was a pivotal force in my life and I knew one day I wanted to be a grandmother like her. She always placed a starburst candy in my lunch box and it delighted me every day!
My passion for understanding people grew when I took a psychology class in high school. I worked in group homes during my college years and understood how important it is for a child to feel loved. I graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a degreee in Psychology. During my graduate studies in social work, I worked in a homeless shelter for one year. During my second year, I worked as a counselor at the California Youth Authority which houses youthful offenders between the ages of 12 and 25. After grad school, I soon began a 14 year career as a deputy sheriff for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office in northern California. I was always a therapist at heart, and knew I wouldn’t be able to fulfill my true passion in serving people through law enforcement. However, I am the first turbaned Sikh-American woman deputy sheriff in the United States. Having worked in a profession dominated my men, I understood the need to empower women and girls both in the workplace and in their personal lives. As a mother, I feel honored to walk with my children to show them the importance of honoring themselves with kindness first. I am here as a life coach and a hypnotherapist to help girls and women Own Their Power and live their best life!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many of us go through challenges and obstacles that sometimes feel like tornadoes or earthquakes. We wonder why the lesson had to be so hard. Why do we have to undergo such difficulties? Looking back is always easier than walking through the present struggle. In reflection, we can see how we grew from the struggle and sometimes even understand why everything happened as it did. I would say going through a divorce was pretty challenging coming from culture that prides itself in saying, “til death due us apart.” I was told, “he’s not so bad, other husbands are worse.” A woman walking away from her marriage is sometimes seen as prioritizing her own needs before the needs of her children. But to honor your truth and your heart is not selfish, it is necessary to become the woman you are meant to be. When you live your truth, you empower others to do the same. It takes great strength to walk your own path and not succumb to what others expect you to be. But in the end …your Soul thanks you because it vibrates with peace and harmony. Through all my challenges and obstacles, my faith in a High Power has always carried me over turbulent waters. Through the darkness, I have found my way to the light by grounding myself in something far greater and more powerful than my own existence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
