Meet Harini Natarajan of Harini SA Photography in Scripps Ranch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harini Natarajan.

Harini, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
John Keats said, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever.” I feel the reverse is even more profound. If something brings you joy it’s going to be beautiful forever! That’s what a fabulous picture should do! It should bring forth joy every time you look at it.

From a young age, I have been drawn to the pictures in magazines like National Geographic and Cosmopolitan. Their photographers create the most evocative images that sear into your brain. Even with phone cameras I adore taking pictures rather than being in on them. The moment I handled my first DSLR it was love! I live in one of the most beautiful cities and a camera that could translate what I feel into an alluring image. What more could I ask for? Shooting with my DSLR was a revelation. I loved capturing the moments that spoke to me. I loved editing them to make art my style. I have been toting around my camera everywhere I go. My handbag choices depend solely on their ability to hold my DSLR and a couple of lenses. 😛

My journey began with landscape photography, capturing some amazing sunsets, macro shots, astrophotography with stars, comets, and milky way. I got my breakthrough Raw Artists showcase – an international art show. I collaborated with some of San Diego’s influencers and featured a mix of landscapes and a “Shadow” themed portraits. I sold a few of my photographs at the art exhibit. This propelled me to launch my own photography business.

Has it been a smooth road?
I started my career as an IT professional in India. I moved to the US a few years ago. The corporate grind did not excite me. I went through job hunting on a rote. The offers I received did not feel right.

I am grateful for a very supportive husband who encouraged me to try out different avenues that sparked my passion. Getting into photography includes a lot of investment. I plunged ahead without knowing if I could be successful in turning it into a business. It was a leap of faith. One I am so glad I did.

Starting a business on my own has been the biggest challenge so far. There are quite a few steps involved and they have to be done right. San Diego has some amazing entrepreneurs who support and assist new business owners. My mentor is an amazing photographer herself who teaches the business start-up process to new photographers.

San Diego community, on the whole, promotes collaboration over competition. Surrounding myself with people who are high energy and positivity magnets has been pivotal.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Harini SA Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Harini Sa Photography specializes in weddings and brand photography. I am an Indian and our weddings last for days and they are celebrations of love and blessings from friends and family. I make sure the bride and groom are completely relaxed on their special day. Even though weddings are hectic, I ensure the couple has pockets of alone time to take in and cherish their wedding every step of the way. I especially love candid shots of bride and groom when they forget the camera and simply being themselves.

As a brand photographer, I love to empower entrepreneurs to Appreciate their Worth, Believe in their Vision and Celebrate their Successes. These are the ABC’s of my brand photography. With more and more self-made entrepreneurs, brand photography has really taken off. High-quality images represent great content. My clients are not just the owners of their businesses. They are the BRAND. My job as a Brand Photographer taps into who you are as a person, your passion, energy and what makes you “You”.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is a photographers paradise. From stunning views, gorgeous blue ocean, a smorgasbord of cuisine options, not to mention the friendly people, San Diego has everything. To an entrepreneur, San Diego community is very supportive and inclusive. I think a metro line would enable better and faster connectivity to all parts of San Diego! San Diego is a fantastic place to be! So lucky to be a part of this wonderful city.
