Hi Heather, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Willmus Weddings started as a passion project between my husband Christophe and me. We met while backpacking in Asia in 2012—two curious creatives with a shared love for storytelling. Over the years, that connection evolved into a business built around our strengths: I plan, He captures.
We officially launched Willmus Weddings in San Diego to offer something different—full-service planning, photography, and videography with a modern, editorial approach. From small elopements to full weekend celebrations, we focused on creating thoughtful experiences and timeless visuals for couples who wanted more than cookie-cutter.
Word-of-mouth, meaningful collaborations, and a strong visual brand helped us grow. Today, Willmus Weddings is proud to be the most reviewed wedding planning team in San Diego, and we continue to expand, capturing love stories across California and soon in France, where my husband is originally from.
What hasn’t changed is our core belief: weddings should feel effortless, personal, and deeply reflective of the couple at the center of it all.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any business rooted in real human connection, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road and COVID was one of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced. Practically overnight, everything paused. Weddings were canceled or postponed indefinitely, couples were heartbroken, and like many others in the event industry, we found ourselves in survival mode.
But it also pushed us to adapt. We leaned into elopements and intimate weddings, helped couples reimagine their celebrations, and focused on deepening our client relationships. It reminded us why we do what we do because it’s not about the size of the guest list, it’s about the story.
On a more personal level, juggling the business during uncertain times, while raising our young son, tested our resilience. But it also strengthened our bond as business partners and as a family.
Every challenge we’ve faced has helped us refine our vision and deepen our commitment to creating intentional, beautiful experiences for our couples, no matter the circumstances.

How do you define success?
For us, success isn’t measured by how many weddings we book or how big the event is—it’s about the experience we create and the connection we build with each couple. Success is when our clients tell us they felt seen, supported, and completely at ease from start to finish. It’s when the photos or films make them feel something, even years later.
We also define success as working in alignment with our values: creativity, trust, and intention. If we’re growing as artists, building meaningful relationships, and creating beautiful work that resonates that’s success. And if we get to do all of that together, as a couple and as a team, then we know we’re on the right path.
