Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Fuqua.
Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a home brewer and cider maker just a little over a year ago and fell in love with the art of the craft. For the last year, I have been making hard cider in my tiny apartment. The number of gallons has grown exponentially over the last twelve months. Now, I am deep down the rabbit hole of cider making! The obsession quickly turned into a passion and now I am crafting artisanal cider, using traditional cider making techniques. Not only am I producing hard cider, but I am also very active on social media. I create and share knowledge of cider making with others. I recently applied for my LLC and am in the process of applying for licensing to produce hard cider commercially.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think new ventures are always a bit scary. But, the unknown can also be a lot of fun. For me, I find that it is so rewarding to do something that I really love and am passionate about. It is true what they say if you love what you do it doesn’t feel like work. The biggest struggle so far has been the start-up phase of the business. Licensing and regulations for producing alcoholic beverages require a lot of research, planning, and paperwork.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think San Diego is the perfect place for a business like West Coast Witches Brewing! The community here has always been wonderful at embracing local artisans and individuals in craft. Small business has a great deal of love and support in the community. The community is growing and I think consumers really see the value in supporting “local.” Even though we live in this large city… it still has a small town vibe.
