Meet Hoyt Yeatman of Sitting On Stacy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hoyt Yeatman.

Hoyt, Jeff, and Kyle grew up in Ventura County. They all attended a local rock music school but didn’t know each other until after they had left. One-night Hoyt saw Jeff playing drums wearing a woman’s dress and lipstick. Hoyt knew that Jeff had to be in his band. He asked Jeff to jam a couple days after and they instantly formed the band Paper. They had success winning numerous Battle of the Band competitions and opening for Puddle of Mudd, Unwritten Law, and Smash Mouth.

The name Paper got really old really fast. They eventually changed their name to Sitting On Stacy. They recorded their first full-length album at their home studio. It is titled Obsessed and is now on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, etc. They also have numerous music videos out on YouTube that the band has shot and directed themselves.

Sitting on Stacy resides in the San Diego where all the members attend college. Their new album, Obsessed, was released April 1st, 2017 and they are currently recording new songs for release in the near future.

Has it been a smooth road?
So far, it’s been a pretty smooth road because we all have the same goals, similar senses of humor, we enjoy being and playing together.

We’ve been lucky that our music has been embraced by so many which encourages us even more. Our fan base is great; they’re a lot of fun and inspire us.

We initially had a struggle finding a bass player that had the same long-term goals and who meshed with our personalities. We tried out two bass players and they were great guys but it didn’t quite work out. Once we found Kyle everything became easy.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an alternative rock band. Our music often has a ska or punk element as well. We are known for being super high energy at our live shows and our music is accessible to a broad fan base. We’re most proud of the music we’ve been able to get out without the help of a record label. We were offered a label deal but felt that we would have to give away too much for little return. The other thing that makes us so proud is that our followers/fans are really nice people; they really get into our music and as a result our concerts are electric. There’s so many bands out there and they’re all good and trying hard, I’m not sure we surpass them but I do know we are extremely driven so much so that we’ve recorded and distributed our music by ourselves. It’s taken a lot of dedication to do that.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We very much feel that San Diego is a great place for our band. We purposely came to San Diego to further our band because the people here are so receptive. It’s historically produced some great talent and the people here enjoy a robust music scene. There are many venues and options for live music and the more kicked back atmosphere in San Diego is perfect for our style of music. If someone were just starting out my advice would be to go as many venues as you can and make contact with other musicians and the people who run the venues and offer to play. There’s many options for entry level bands where you can play on less crowded days and can build up your performing skills.
