Meet Huey Ly of Shallot Asian Cuisine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huey Ly.

Huey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For one thing, I will remember about my Grandma, she was always making many different home cooked meal then sharing and enjoying them with family and friends. It’s her past time and love. My sister did learn a lot from Grandma cooking so when she lost her restaurant in LA due to tough competition. I started ‘Shallot’ for her to continue with what she can do best. But more importantly, I open ‘Shallot’ so that she could be closed to the family.

‘Shallot’ has been in business for almost four (4) years. We are grateful and truly appreciative of all our guests. Their support and understanding are what has driven us to be what we are. I often and with all effort will relate all comments to my staffs from our customers. Bad and Good. We work together constantly to how better ourselves on how to better serve the guest. Either in timing, cleanliness, quality, and presentation.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. Our restaurant has not had a signage on the side of the street. All signposts are reserved for corporate businesses/restaurant. Parking is a nightmare for visitors during lunch. Location is kinda hidden.

Among that. The landlord is not willing to do anything to fix the issues.

Please tell us about Shallot Asian Cuisine.
‘Shallot Asian Cuisine’ is a family own Vietnamese restaurant. Our goal is to provide our guests we serve authentic traditional Vietnamese food and some original fusion creations. Our home recipes and fresh ingredients speak for itself thru our dishes. We focus on fresh and quality and trained to not at any time compromise them.

All our marinates are made without MSG added. Our beef, chicken, and Vegetarian broths for PHO are free of MSG. Perhaps the first in any Vietnamese restaurants where PHO are sold.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
A few first days of class in America and not knowing a single word of English when we first arrived in Shreveport, Louisiana.
