Today we’d like to introduce you to Iren Miklos.
Iren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Some 20 plus years ago, I was looking to work from home, so I can stay home with my little babies, but still, do something that I can make money. I bumped into an add on the laundry room; somebody was offering tax preparation. Math and logic was always my forte, so I thought, I can do this. Got my license, and started preparing taxes. In the meantime, I was taking classes, and my husband encouraged me to get my BS degree in accounting.
After graduating from SDSU, I went to work for property management companies but still continued to build my small business doing bookkeeping, payroll, and taxes. My kids grew up, and left the home, my business grew as well, and now I take care of my clients with the same dedication I took care of my kids.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggle was my self-confidence. I grew up in a communist country, where intimidation was the main motivator. It took me lots of reading and self-development to build up my courage to network, and get clients.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is a small accounting firm, offering customized record keeping for small businesses. I love to come along a start-up business and watch them grow. I really care about my clients, and that is the difference between my service and other accounting firms.
What were you like growing up?
As long as I remember, I was good at math and built little systems around my life. I also liked to get to know people. I thought I will be a medical doctor when I grow up, but things turned out different. Probably that is why some of my clients feel, I am their therapist as well as their accountant.
