Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Cavassana.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Since I was a child, draw was my escape valve from this world. Drawing was for me like I could be in my own bubble. When I was 16 my cousin asked me to go with him to do a tattoo, when I saw the artist working I was amazed, with the fact that I could draw in people. From there I started to work and save money to buy the tattoo materials, after a few months I finally got it but I realized that I did not know anything, like how to turn in the machine.
That was where it all started, at the time I worked and “studied”, where I did not show up for classes to go to the tattoo shop where my friends and my mentors worked (Leandro Marques and Alex Fernando). At the age of 20 I left my old job to dedicate myself to the tattoo. I have been doing my art professionally since 2014 and I can say that this has changed my life. Always with respect I was able to find my space, I owe everything to my clients who trusted in my work and give me total freedom of creation, I would not have never got where I am today if were not my clients.
Please tell us about your art.
My art is totally dedicated to my clients, I try to understand what each one wants, the history behind and the feeling for every tattoo I do. I am inspired by every place, every tattoo artist and every style, but most from my life experiences. I try to find my inner peace every time I am doing my art, that makes a huge difference for me.
Believe in the power that art has, do it with love, do it with respect. Put a lot more than you can imagine, give a lot more than your 100% in everything in life. Tattooing is just a reflection of who you really are. Simple as it is, make it simple to be unique and different. Listen a lot more and talk less. Learning does not always come from above but from everyone.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge it is in the beginning, when you need to find your place and when people need to find your art too. After that you just need to keep working with respect and love, to keep growing.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
