Meet Ivy Forest Traylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Forest Traylor.

Ivy Forest Traylor

Hi Ivy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started playing piano when I was 6 but quickly picked up my first guitar a couple years after I couldn’t be bothered with learning how to read music. I played in a few different bands in middle school, and actually went on a couple tours in high school in bands that have since dissolved. When I went to Full Sail, I learned more about making music on computers professionally and started to follow that career which had led me into live events. From then on, I had worked in the industry for over a decade until Covid took my career from me and led me to pursue music on stage instead of behind a front-of-house mixing console. I started this band with 4 friends, but over the years it has turned into an expression of self, with the help of friends to play live. These days I’ve been making a lot of electronic music under a different alias (@exesystdnb) while I currently am still dealing with pretty reluctant carpal tunnel.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life’s a journey. Things happen. Sometimes, I wish I could slow it down and appreciate what I have and the beauty of it all, but being in LA, it seems almost impossible.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m seemingly the jackie of trades; web development, graphic design, audio engineering, video editing, e-commerce, etc. I wish I was two people sometimes.

I’d say I’m most proud of my mom for sticking up for my antics through the years and my peers for the same sentiment.

I think I’m different because of the amount of music I make. I try to finish at least 10 tracks a week, sometimes I can get the meat of that done in 24 hours depending on how well my state of flow is.

Penrose is my escape from the gluttony of reality and its seemingly stranglehold in purgatory. If you like Deftones and Zoloft, you’ll love it.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My dad, RIP
