Meet Jackie Nematbakhsh of Living Within Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Nematbakhsh.

Hi Jackie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was first exposed to therapy when I was a child after my parent’s divorce and have gone on and off throughout my lifetime. I am such a strong believer that therapy is not a one time thing that people do. I first knew I wanted to be a therapist at ten years old and feel so grateful that I truly love what I get to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I currently run my own private practice with a few associates who work underneath my license but it has not always been a smooth road! I worked in a variety of settings until I made the brave decision to not only start my own practice but quit my very steady full time job to really deep dive into all of the amazing parts that owning your own business offers.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Living Within Therapy?
I have a small boutique private practice in Mission Valley where I supervise a few associates. I have been in private practice for nine years and have been practicing for more than a decade which I am incredibly grateful for. I have always said the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is my bread and butter and has been my preferred modality to assist clients in connecting to their values. I have been practicing Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for the past few years to assist people with traumatic experiences and find this to be some of the most impactful work I have ever done as a therapist.. Since becoming a mom I now have my Perinatal Mental Health Certificate (PMH-C) and specialize in working with women who have struggled with their own journeys into parenthood as well as challenges they face in parenting or within their own family unit. I am incredibly passionate and warm but also direct and can really assist clients in confronting their fears and inner child to be the person they truly want to be.

How do you think about happiness?
Nature, animals, my family and friends, and being a therapist. I truly believe it is my calling to be holding space for people’s emotions because I think it is such a privilege.
