Meet Jacob Smith of 24 Frames in La Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacob. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I guess I’ll start my story in the Spring of 2016, my parents just divorced and I was three months away from graduating high school. The girl that I was dating at the time decided to call it quits, and it seemed as if the whole world was crumbling down over me. This was the only point in my life where I felt truly lost and helpless. I was assigned a senior project in my English class, we were told that it could be anything, a book, a poem, a video, etc. I decided to make a video about what was going on in my life at the time.

I poured everything that I was feeling into it. Yes, you may have guessed it, that is where my passion for visual arts began. At the beginning of my career, it was the year 2016 and I was taking pictures of landscapes with my phone and editing them with free apps in-app store. Eventually, I leveled up to DSLR, from that point on the visual arts have turned into a passion that is ultimately indescribable. Taking pictures and making videos took my mind off of the negativity that was surrounding me and allowed me to think for once. I met so many new people and was able to create art in which I truly felt passionate about.

Over the past four years, my skill and knowledge about the craft have skyrocketed. Ever since I moved to San Diego in the Fall of 2017, I have seen a significant increase in my capabilities. For anyone who is interested in bettering their skill in these art forms, the key is to shoot as much as you fucking can. The phrase “practice makes perfect” has never had as much significance to me until now. Meeting new people every week and making those connections were essential to my growth as a visual artist. As a kid, I never knew how important collaborating and being consistent could be. Now fast forward to the year 2020, I am working on creating a multimedia company with a couple other creatives, s/o Brandon Nash and Evan Crossing (aka Apex Kato).

Has it been a smooth road?
In order to receive growth, you must overcome many obstacles. My parent’s divorce and the ended relationship with my girlfriend at the time really messed me up. My freshman year of college at SBCC (Santa Barbara City College), My grades were unacceptable and my physical and emotional health was poor. There was a need for another drastic change in my life. My parents told me that they could no longer afford for me to go to school Santa Barbara, so I was given the choice to either figure something else out or to come back home to Santa Maria. I decided to join my childhood friends in San Diego and I’ve been here ever since.

24 Frames – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
24 Frames Production is basically a media production label. At the moment, we are focusing on filming music videos and photography for local creatives and businesses. Where we’re at currently, our main focus is providing high-quality media to clients for a low price. We plan to invest in ourselves and continue the uphill progress that we’ve made as a company and individuals.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego is a great start for a company without a doubt. San Diego has a lot of potentials and not much of a visual arts scene at least from my perspective. It’s most definitely a good place for young businesses to grow and thrive in. In the future, we have plans to start doing more business in LA, but that is much further down the road.
