Meet Jake Driscoll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Driscoll.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Before high school, I started making goofy videos with my friend Nick and posting them on Youtube. This was my first encounter with film making. I loved it so much and would spend my free time writing comedy scripts to film and edit. The summer before college, I worked in a meat department. It was a nasty job and required a lot of hard work. It was through this job that I realized I don’t want to have a “normal” job. It gave me the drive to work hard and better my craft. As the videos progressed, my friend’s uncle wanted to hire me to make some videos for his financial company. This opportunity opened up a reality that I could pursue this passion and possibly make it a career. I continued making videos and that translated into photography and graphic design. I kept making content and opportunities for work would follow. I now make videos and enough of a living to not need to go back to the meat department.

Please tell us about your art.
Through trying various projects for various businesses, I decided I wanted to focus on creating around music. I have always been so inspired my music, and I wanted to create art to help promote artists and music that I believe in. I started from the bottom with no connections to the industry. I began emailing venues and sneaking my camera into shows just so I could shoot concerts. Concert photography allowed me to shoot some amazing artists like The Head and The Heart, Kings Kaleidoscope, and more. I began to work with local artists like The Sweats (@thesweatss) and Sharp Dialect (@sharpdialect) to create content around their music. I have created cover art, music videos, and shot plenty of shows for social media content. Along with creating around music I received an opportunity to work for Geoff Gouveia (@geoffgouveia), whom I currently work for. Working with him has allowed me to film his art process and assist on projects for Adidas, LAFC, and other companies. Creating content is a bridge for me to meet new people and open up a conversation that is bigger than anything I can create. I love telling a good story and doing it in a unique way. I enjoy being “different,” so if someone else is already doing it, my goal is to take a narrative and flip it into something you wouldn’t think of doing.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think people are too afraid to show their work. There are plenty of talented people who keep things to themselves. Everyone is on social media, and that is such an easy way to display your work! There is fear in putting yourself out there, but I see the value of showing my work and moving on to the next thing. I understand I am in a very competitive field so if I a serious about doing what I do, showing my work on a consistent basis is important.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am constantly making new things, so I tend to post consistently on Instagram @jakedriscoll_. Be on the lookout for some fun Instagram stories. You can also check out my portfolio www.jakedriscoll.com.
