Today we’d like to introduce you to James Shelby.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started selling real estate in one of the worst real estate markets that the country had ever seen. It was 2013, and the market was at an all-time low. I had been working in the auto glass industry since I was 15 years old and wanted a change, a challenge. I would quickly learn the importance of direct sales through things like door knocking and cold calling. I also started developing relationships with local business owners and people in my community and figuring out how I could contribute to their success through co-marketing/branding. This led to an increase in my business sales year over year for the past seven years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life goes exactly how you plan it. It’s the ability to adapt and overcome that will lead to your success. Through direct sales, I have encountered people that have cussed me out, slammed doors on me and so On. I have had deals that have been difficult and required out of the box thinking to get the deal closed. I have had other agents try and report me for minor infractions when it comes to advertising. I have had team members come and go from my team. But at the end of the day, it’s all about having a positive mental attitude and a strong mindset, work ethic and problem-solving personality. These things will allow you to push through and persevere.
We’d love to hear more about the business.
I help people buy and sell real estate, homes, multi-family properties, land, etc. I’m known for my marketing and willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built and established through the years of being in this industry, with not only my clients but other agents. This has allowed me to help our clients have a greater chance of success and a smoother transaction.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been so many great moments throughout my career thus far, but at the end of it all, being able to hand the keys to a first-time homebuyer still never gets old. Seeing the joy on their face and the pride they have instantly when they realize they’re homeowners always gives me a sense of joy and accomplishment. I just had the pleasure of helping a young military family last week, close on their first home in Murrieta. Nothing can beat that feeling in this business!
