Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Hall.
Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The first camera I touched was in college. It was a gray 10MP Canon and it was love at first sight. Being behind the camera felt natural and gave me joy with each image I captured.
Unfortunately, at that time, everyone was telling me that I couldn’t make a career at it. At that point, I went into doing marketing and working in the corporate world but keeping my side hustle of doing photography. But it didn’t end there.
It took twenty plus years, a beautiful and supportive girl, and the desire to succeed but I finally made the jump into making photography my career. I’ve never been happier starting my own company (phoDesigns) and capturing moments that allow them to last forever.
Fast forward to today… phoDesigns motto is Creating Smiles Daily and is always looking for that next individual, couple, family or business that needs their story told through photography, video, or graphic design.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Looking back to the day when I held my first camera, people telling me that I couldn’t make a career at photography, and waiting so long to make the leap are just the beginning of the journey on the rocky road.
In the beginning, I worked a “day” job while trying to take photography gigs on the weekends until I could find the right time to start doing it full time. I decided to lay out a plan, but it never went as according. Finally one day my girlfriend told me to get out of my way and so I did.
I jumped in with both feet and phoDesigns was created. If I can pass anything onto the reader, it is you’re never too old to go after what your passion about and good at, timing is never perfect, and it’s okay to make mistakes and figure it out as you go. Every day, I learn something new which makes phoDesigns continually grow. Now phoDesigns offers not only photography but video and graphic design services also.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with phoDesigns – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
phoDesigns key focus is to help tell individuals, couples, families, and companies stories via photos, designs or video in a clear and compelling way.
Photography
The majority of my focus is photographing events (small or big), products (standard white background or lifestyle), headshots, and engagements.
Graphic Design
The bulk of my work consists of logos, business cards, flyers, brochures, banners (print or web), programs and web icons.
Video
I specialize in corporate testimonies, brand messaging, and educational/training videos.
After asking me the question of “What do I do,” everyone always says “Wow, that’s a lot.” And as accurate as that may seem, it’s what I am most proud of. I’ve always strived to be driven, which has allowed me to make my focus the client and deliver them excellent photos, designs or video.
Whether I’m behind the camera or in front of my computer, I desire to create a smile on my clients face when they see the final product.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
phoDesigns is still a small fish in a vast pond. I hope to continue to grow and join the “big fishes” one day. In the meantime, I am looking forward to the many incredible relationships and opportunities that await.
